One of my Buds and I decided to have a go at building some rod holders. I hope they catch more fish than my driftmasters:D

Those look killer....I got some old T-Trak out in the shop and I thought about trying something similar....

Thanks for the replies. I blame all of this on you folks making Crappie fishing and rigging for crappie fishing look like so much fun (and it really is).
For Pomoxis, the parts list is pretty short. The bar is called T Bar and it is an extruded aluminum. The holders are bent out of 3/16 plated rod and dipped in plasti-dip. The bolts are 5/16 carriage bolts which fit in the T Bar. The square pieces under the wing nuts are cut out of square aluminum tubing.
We are going to try some more in the near future.
Great looking rod holders! Just curious though, how the upright part is mounted on the boat, or whatever you will mount it on. I don't see a base. Do you know how much one of these will ultimately cost you?

I haven't got the bases made yet, but they will be similar to the drift master T-250 series. Pictures will follow with the finish. I will not use the extruded aluminum for the post to the base. My buddy and I haven't got that much in materials due to having some of the stuff already.
If you count the time thinking it about it, your building time, and figure your time is worth minimum wage, you'll have about $500 in the build:D
Worth every penny of it too, I bet! I hope you post some pictures of the final product when you get the bases done. I'm getting ready to invest in some equipment to do some slow trolling and I was leaning toward Driftmaster or HiTek rod holders until I saw yours. I like the idea of being able to tailor mine to just what I want as far as height and width and number of rod holders, so I may just build by own. Thanks again for your posting.

I've got 8 driftmaster rod holders 4 on one T bar and 2 sets of 2 on either side of that. I really like those and have used them for slow trolling and pulling cranks and they are excellent. As you know, with pretty well all sportsmen, excellent is hardly ever good enough.

To mount this to a boat, simply cut about 2 feet of the 2x4 off and nail this down to the center of the boat then screw the base to that:eek:;)
