Cheap Crappie Sets
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...m6/Image01.jpg
Hi, i bought these plastic tubes at auction for 1.00. I have no idea what they were used for but they look like they slide into a tract of some sort. 7 busted bags of half price Sackrete and i now have 14 crappie sets. Now the question is, do you think they will work and if they will draw fish to them, how long do you think it will take. I have read it takes a while for plastic and p v c to form algea. I would like to know any info you can give me about this setup. Tks so much.

It should work just fine. Fish should start using it in a matter of days to a couple of weeks. The structure itself will attract some fish but algae will be twice as nice.

Look Great
Those look great. How fast the fish get on them is so varied. Some of mine a month other a year. I do think PVC is a little slower than wood but hard to prove.

crappie structure
Looks great. nice job. Should attract fine. As noted already, time will vary on water temp, clarity and depth. keep us posted.

I see 2 problems..........
1. You only have 14 sets....
2. They are not in the water.........
Build it and they will come......
End of story.........

when i use pvc pipes, I rub the pipes with sand paper to remove some of the finish off. they look nice

They look really good, I had dropped some back in may and went back a couple of weeks later and they had fish on them. I dropped wood and pvc.

That is the ticket. Sometimes the rate fish begin using PVC will vary to where you place the sets. Anytime you place crappie condos on a break will enhance the effectiveness of the entire arrangement.

Definately sand the slick surface off. Algae will stick to it better and alot faster.

what did you pour the sakcrete into that you were able to remove it?? Looks great.

I poured the dry sakrete into a card board box, worked the tube with the nail in the end into the dry mix and then poured some water on the sakrete. Let it set for a couple of days and you're ready to put them in the water.....An update on them...they are working very well. I placed them around some docks and altho the crappie have'nt came to the docks from the deep water yet , we are catching as many from these set's as any of the other sets. Can't wait till December and January.. that's when it gets good.

They ought to draw them slabs in.

I actually used a cardboard box to pour the sakrete into. What i did was drive a nail through the end of the tube first, Then i poured the dry sakrete into the box about 4 inches deep, worked the tubing down into the sakrete and then poured water onto the dry sakrete. Let it set for 3 ..4 days and your ready to go. The hard thing to do is keep the tubing in the right position until the sakrete drys. I used a lot of tape, string etc. . and adjusted the tubing as the crete sets up. They do work, i'm catching fish daily from them. tks.
