I prefer red some where, but your right sometime's it turn's the jig into a gill-la-monster jig I'm kinda lookin forward to trying My new green red color it's also been a excellent bass producer in a craw patteren!I did real well last year sweaping brush with a red tail cream Lil fish'ie in white/pearl seems all they wanted for 2 week's!
Don't think I've ever tried a solid red tail on a jig myself. Looks good to me tho!!
I do awsome with ants I made for the fly rod with a red butt and few red bucktail hairs coming out the end. The gills do love them.
I tie a lot of red body/white tail but rarely a red tail. Usually put my brighter colors in the tail. Don't know why.
yeah me too. I'll just have to try it. I kinda have doubts about this, but we'll see. I have to field-test this and a bunch of other colors I put together this Fall....
Attica- how long are the bucktail fibers on the ant?
Flat- maybe the 'gills will associate this jig with the swine flu and will leave it alone
OKSTATEjiggy,
Nice looking jig. It reminds me of the "black neon" color combination used for some bass jigs and tubes. You may get several visits from Mr. Bucketmouth with this one.
Ha!!!! Tiny.... and not too many. 1/8" or 3/16" at most. I make a black top body (thorax??) a hackle wrap in the middle and a bright red butt with the tail out the back. Make them on anywhere from 8 down to 12 hooks. It is a KILLER!! Played with wings on it before, but fish didn't seem to care one way or the other.
Call a medic - it is too sick.
Wt./hook? Like to have some red in the red - haven't tried all red.
Led- as usual 1/16 and I don't know the hook size... ha
Standing the bank"
for some reason don't ask why",but"i never get a freckle w/ red tails of materials like feather, flash, deer, kip, squirrel"but as soon as i go w/ a red plastic that's all she wrote for the crappie and gills... try fishing a lil deeper than the gills for the freckles in the same area ,as Freckles are larger for a reason besides genetics!"Freckles know they don't exert as much energy by congregating w/ the gills ,or becoming forage for the mighty predators sharing the tub w/ them. hanging out beneath the gills awaiting the scrap showers to indicate feeding time, and because they are light sensitive is why this happens..."Ever see a freckle w/ a blind eye like you may see on a bass? "I have proven this theory many times under the right conditions.Usually in the fall months. As now in the warmer months they are mostly single hence the name Bachelor perch"and your more likely to have the big grn carp rob the freckle of his long awaited offerings from you.Night time is the right time ,and I'd say nearly the only time you can call your shots for the elusive creatures"till they get back to school. Then it doesn't matter as much as maybe size",and scent ,as opposed to the (red)color of your offering"!
Now in a boat,w/ depth ,and fish finder"...color me what ever they want right, and change color often not to make them immune"as it were. H1N1...lol"or bore them rather"?!?!HUH?HUH?YEAH?Know what I mean Vern?
just my $0.02 again":)
nice jig OKSTATE"
grub: yeah I do.
Nice lookin jig!! Even the old store boughts had red tails in hair and feathers and they always seem to come back around. If they work great if not try something else, till you pick up what they want.
