Guntersvill "DINKS"

Well I am back from Guntersville Lake. I fished 2 hours yesterday and two hours today. The rest of the time we went shopping and did all the other things in the mountain area sightseeing or just relaxing that the wife wanted to do. I caught 117 fish in those four hours from the bank right by my hotel room. I caught one about every third cast. Most were what I would call "dinks."

93 Gills
14 Shellcrackers
6 bass
4 turtles

The big crappies and shellcrackers were still out deeper than where I could reach from shore. I will be going back in October. Here are a few photos.

The wife and I have been married 40 years this December. She is quite a catch and a keeper. Yes, I caught "Dinks" The weather was really hot and I was limited by having to stay close to shore and close to momma. Still had fun. I love my B 'n' M and my Ugly Sticks. On this trip the B 'n' M was more sensitive to those dink biters. Still 117 fish landed is 117 fish landed. Had a ball. Had to come home a day early due to mother-in-law getting sick and we had to come back.

You did good my friend. Dinks are fun also....everyday cannot always be slabs and lunkers. But everyday fishing can be good with the right attitude.

Looks like a nice hotel, looked it up myself after reading your post. I love the places I can sneak out of the room before the wife is up and get my fishin fix! :D

G-3 is right on.... fishin' is fishin' no matter if you are catching dinks or not catching at all. Glad you enjoyed yourself. :)

Thanks Pat. We would love to go to Hawaii for the 40th or just go to Pidgeon Forge and come back and find a home on a small reservoir or farm pond. G3 found one for me but the park ranger is still living in it.:D:D:D:D

Your not going to find one talking about it.....go find one and make a deal pending on the sale of the home you have now. I found lots of lake homes for sale in Alabama on the web the other night. Of course you could always upgrade and move to Mississippi. :)

Well David, We will do some serious looking in about a year. Momma is not going anywhere yet because she is caring for her elderly mother who is in her early 90's...... Our home on the water is in our future though. We both agree on that. My current home is valued at $160,000.00 and I only owe $40,000.00 on it. We should be able to wheel and deal in the very near future. It will have to be on a protected bay or reservoir where the crappies are.:D:D:D:D:D Possible Alabama, Tennessee or Anderson South Carolina. I doubt we will go back to cold and snowy Ohio.

Remember....the top crappie lake in the USA is Grenada Lake in MS. I however am partial to Enid Lake, MS and I want to find a lake house there....but have been thinking about just looking for a lot that I can buy and then have a new house built. Oh well.....I can dream and I may just do it someday. I really like Dale Hollow lake in TN but thats just too far away from the grandkids.

I know what you mean about grandchildren David. I have 5 myself. Grenada is good but Weiss and now Guntersville aren't that bad for slab crappies either. Read the article about Guntersville in the August 2009 issue of Great Days Outdoors magazine.

2-3 pound crappie and 4-8 pound bass are an everyday occurrance March - May and again October - December

Guntersville and Weiss have my vote.

I noticed no rod holders on the swing. I got lakes with dinks too. Game is to see if I can catch 30 in a row... then 100.

The swing is on the property owned by the Holiday Inn resort. The wife loves to sit there and read while I fish. I plan on going back about the middle of September to see if the Crappies and Shellcrackers have moved in closer. Either way, just being out on the water is fun for me.

"Out on the water" means outside at the water just like if we say "That is one bad car" it really means "That car is fly and looking good." If we say "That food was the bomb" that means "Momma put her foot in it and she can sure throw down." If we say "That is a brickhouse" we mean "36-24-36 or better. "Fishin on the bank does not mean I was standing on a building that people deposit money in." These are all "Images for your mind to interpret." I know you are just pickin and havin fun G3.:D:D:D:D So am I.

If I was in boat fishin then I promise you that the folks on here would really see some Southern Slabs.

Usually when we say "Slabs" we are talking BBQ but in this instance "Slab" means 2+ pound crappies.:D:D:D:D

That looks like a great spot for carp. I'd have my carp rods rigged and ready to go. They wouldn't be dinks!
