No one told me, so having just started to tie I have, so far, learned:
1) When you are separating your marabou don't, repeat don't have your ceiling fan on HIGH!:(
2) Have your first thread wrapped on your hook shank before, repeat before you get your marabou in your hand ready to put it on!:(
I'm sure this is just a start and there will be many other Things I will learn about tying jigs.:)

I never thought about sharing that information here.
1. easier to tie on smaller quantities of material until you have the jig you want, rather than tying on too much and having to take it off and wasting material.
2. Tie in steps. If tying in quantity, tie all the jigs first, then go back and put head cement on them... saves time
3. Will think of more...
It doesn't take a ceiling fan on high to make trouble, LOL! I have a new fan in this room and can't use it at all and even when the AC kicks on it can be a problem if not careful and I have my feathers I am working with in front of and below the table my vise is on.

Me 3 on #2 mistake. Have been known to get into a new design in my head a little too far before. Will look through all my inventory, pick and lay out all materials, pull my feathers and look up..... don't even have a jig or hook in my vise :confused: what the?? If i only had 3 hands....:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
Me too on #2, do at least twice on every batch.
Ditto on #2.... and my dog always grabs the elk hair if he gets downstairs, but at least he Leaves everything else alone.

Glad I'm not the only one.
I just hadn't heard of these being "Things maybe you should look out for before you sit down to tie".
I didn't see a warning label on my jig supplies about these, of course I didn't look on the bottom of Flatfish46's boxes.

Here's a couple more:
Make sure that the cat is not around when you decide to tie or you bobbin becomes it's favorite slap toy when you look away for any reason.
Save your extra stuff that you think you will never use for the kids so they have their OWN stuff to play and tie with. Either that or buy extra and challenge them to tie with that instead of yours. My kids used an entire skein of strung hackle for dress up and about 200 of my beads for decorations on boas.

Beware of the sickle hooks, they'll bleed ya faster than a briar patch !!!

Never I mean NEVER sneeze around powder paint do not ....no matter how bad you want to, put that last little bit of tension on that last thread wrap....it'll break every time.
No you cannot put down just poured jigs before they will burn your hand no matter how fast you think you are.
no you cannot whip finish with a cordless drill dogs can and will open a drawer to get to your deer/tree rat/kip/whatever tails even if they have shown no motivation in years.
do not drop your sprue access back into the lead pot until AFTER it cools down to solid.
If you drop a hook on a dark colored rug it did not bounce into a harmless corner of the house, it is waiting for you to walk barefoot through the house at 4 in the am to prove to you it is still on the rug. Labs think that there is still a duck in those bags of feathers if they just scatter them out far enough they will find it. No you cannot un role a skein of chenille in 2 minutes...if you try to you will have at least 100 knots in that 75 yards of fancy string you just paid 30 dollars for on sale( it was just the right color I had to have it at any price and I am in a hurry to get to tying with this stuff).........the list is never ending..........................brim....stay tuned for more as I find them....and I will find them.
Good stuff,lol. I wish these lists would have been around years ago when I started tying.That sneeze must have been a good one,I can picture that clearly in my mind course it's funnier when it happens to someone else.
