I keep breaking these trolling motor mounts. I am sure getting tired of it. This is the third one I've bought and I fisn lakes with tons of timber. I know the best thing is probably to buy the puck transducer, but I don't like them.
I thoght about connecting this thing with epoxy, think that would work? The plastic that the metal strap goes through is like .100 of an inch, so you almost break it just snugging the dam thing on the trolling motor.
Any ideas are welcome.
the puck ones on the trolling motors break pretty easy too, unfortunately ive been through 2 this year myself
Don't over-tighten, and get a guard for it. There is a product called Wee Vee that is designed to protect your transducer.
If it's a Lowrance, forget the mount. Just use a hose clamp on the factory mount like this. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...ucerMount2.jpg
Maybe canepole can make some of those wee-vees for us, he'll have to change the design some, but I don't think that would be a problem for him. :)

I jerry-rigged mine and its held for six months or longer. I left the band clamp on, plus criss-crossed two zip ties just small enough to fit through the center gap on the mount. Cross them inside the mount to keep the ducer from twisting. Looks goofy and cluttered but it has held.
I wondered if you could take a broken puck transducer and epoxy it into a pvc fitting(or piece thereof) already having the clamp in place. This would remove from the clamp on 2 small plastic sections and spread it out over a larger, more stable area. As long as you didn't put the puck way up inside it shouldn't effect the operation of the signal. What do you think, Cane Pole? You understand this area more than the rest of us. Just some input.
Skeetbum, I think I'm going to do the same thing with my normal transducer. I've got PVC, I've got epoxy, and I've got time, and a phone that takes pictures.
Here's what I'm thinking, I've got the transducer sitting next to it, but it'll be epoxied to the PVC and the pvc will be clamped to the TM. Unless canepole or others say this will damage something, I'll do it today. I'll only be out a broken TM mount and I don't feel like ordering another one right away if I don't have to.
I used epoxy and some fiberglass cloth tho rebuild a puck style transducer. I beefed it up a bit and it's been working fine for about 5 years.

May be a little hard to make out because I painted it black but after mine broke I built my own out of a thin sheet of aluminum. I cut it out and shaped it to fit. I left a tab on the front for the hose clamp. I've had no problems with it and I fish in and around a lot of timber. It's 2yrs old now.
