Fall Get Together at Paris Landing

We’ve met some wonderful folks here on Crappie.com and have had a ball at the get togethers we’ve been to, so we’d like to return the favor and share some hospitality. Camping, fishing and tall tales are planned for October 23 - 25th at Kentucky Lake. We’ll be at the Paris Landing State Park, but if you’re not a camper, there’s plenty of places close by to choose from. Fall is a great time to fish on Big Sandy and we’ll be happy to share some spots with y’all. No guarantees on a full boat load of fish, but we can put folks on some spots! We’ll have a pot luck feed and fish fry Saturday evening and try to keep Cane Pole from telling too many whoppers! Tom is lining up some door prizes for us to give away, too.

hey vonna. i hope that me and my girlfriend can come. at this point it would all depend on if i was on call for work that weekend. sounds like it would be a great time.

I have some mighty nice door prizes lined up folks. So you feller and fellerettes need to be planning ahead.;)

Alright, I've made reservations and scheduled off work for Friday the 23rd. Look out Tennessee. Its crappie time.

Can we get more info on where and what camp ground this will be in?
As I will know for sure next week on this. And would like to get everything set up for it.
We will have our camper and boat and the wife.

Hey Pete,

We'll be camping at the Paris Landing State Park. You can launch your boat at the marina by the park or we can show you other ramps that will put you in Big Sandy and you won't have to make as long a run on the water.

Are you going to have any of your apple pies there?

Do you think there will be spots open then? Or go ahead and book a site? I'm going to be there on Thursday am.
Will everyone be trying to get in one section of the campground? Or just where ever we can get?

If your booking a site for this gathering, please post what site you have. That way, others can book within the same area.
We will be in a tent. So I'll have to call about a site that is good for that. Since some sites aren't set up for tents. As we found out at another gathering after booking.

Richard, you always expect apple pie!

Unfortunately, the state park does not allow us to reserve sites. Right now, I don't know of anything big going on that weekend that would fill up the park. If I know for sure you're coming, I'll pay for some sites in advance and stick a lawn chair or small tent on them. I'll get the site numbers for that section. It generally doesn't fill up unless it's a big weekend like July 4th. The central section of the campground has a large grassy area next to several sites and they've let us have as many as 3 tents tents on one campsite. That's one of the reasons we're not camping at LBL. You can reserve there, but they don't allow multiple tents or a tent and camper on one site, you have to keep ALL your campers, tents and vehicles off the grass and it's just too far from Big Sandy.

Pete, if you're gonna be there Thursday for sure, we'll be happy to get you a spot. I think we're gonna take the pop-up to the campground on Wednesday.

I will let you know a week ahead. but sounds like its like Pickwick. Should be plenty of spots open then. I do plan on getting there on Thursday. Marilyn may not get there until Friday. As she has to work.:eek: But will not be that far from us when she gets off work. I think she works in Parsons Tn that day.

Looking over the image of the campground, we will have to load our boats after every trip. Wish we were on the water so to keep boats in water while there. Unless we rent space at the marina. I have a bucket, that I sink to hold minnows for long term. Hope someone doesn't borrow it or the minnows.
We are taking off friday and monday that weekend. Flutterby gets off at 5 pm and has a 35 minute drive home. I'll have the truck loaded, but a 2 1/2 hour drive to the park would put us in the dark. So we will load last minute things friday morning and head your way. Decide if we will pack up sunday afternoon or monday morning.

Was just down to Clarksville to see my 84 yr. old uncle. Took him over to Paris Landing. While we were there the wife said, "Honey why don't we take uncle Bill over to Piney Campground where we stayed when we fished KY lake a few years back?"

Piney CG takes reservations. Many sites on the water (nice). Most have electricity, and some have water also. 2 boat launches. Not that far from Paris Landing either. Just an FYI.

The problem with Piney (aka LBL) is that it's quite a distance from Big Sandy, which is where the better fishing is and where we have waypoints to share with folks who aren't familiar with the lake, also, they do not allow you to have multiple tents on one site, nor can you pitch your tent in the grass or park your boat or your truck or your camper with any of the wheels on the grass, also, they charge you to come into the park to visit other campers and they're not nearly as friendly as the state park folks.

I've been to 1 of those campgrounds in Arkansas. The pad wasn't long enough for boat and truck. Wasn't wide enough for both either. I had 1 wheel of trailer and 1 side of truck off the pad. Was told I had to park 1 at the shower house. Then they wanted me to pay another dollar for parking in a visiters space. They waited til the 2nd day to tell me. 2 nights of 28 degrees, winds were 15 to 20 mph, fishing suxd, electric blanket wasn't enough on an air bed. I packed and went home.

As far as the apple pie, I'll have to get a sample. The doc has me on a low calcium diet. That means not very much green stuff, greens, beans, okra and the such. Everything I grew up on and love to eat. Very little fruit, juices and anything made with fruit. Little tea, little milk products, little beef, no cokes, no cocoa, no beer and no nuts. I love my brownies with vanilla ice cream. Have to save that for special nights.
I can eat fish, lamb, pork, lemons, grapefruit, califlower and that special grape juice that I blend with blackberry juice from the special store.
2 1/2 months to go, I'm ready for some good fishing.

Peach and the chocolate ones are the best. LOL Also We still have your salt and pepper shaker from pickwick. When your wife got sick and you had to leave that time with her.

Wow, that was history, bring them along. I need to replace these old spice bottles we are using now.

I posted in craigslist for a tire and a guy from white house replied. Said he had posted a couple of times free for sandboxes and planters. The rest of the story will have to wait til october.

Well time is flying by, it will be time before we know it. Sure looking forward to fishing and camping at paris landing in Oct.

We were just talking about that. We planned to put up a "things to bring" and head count thread at the end of this month.
