Tom I only hope I can get my 987c-SI and the New Matrix 97:D to share waypoint's and allow me to stay on them with the Matrix 97. If it will do that I'm a happy camper.
Now to save up to buy the interlink to hook them up.
I was hoping you were posting that they had fixed your issues and were out wearing the fish out.
Pete
They way I interpret this answer is that there is no fix for the gps. Sound like a hardware design flaw and can only be fixed with a replacement design.
I want my money back.
Somebody mind doing a cut and paste for me?

Greg, Thanks for the reply.
Do you think there will ever be a more accurate GPS for the 797si?
Could HB do anything to help the situation, like a software down?
Thanks,
RO

I don’t know the answer to that. I don’t think that a software change would help as it’s the current draw of the components that are used versus the design of the power circuitry of the 797 unit that is the issue.

Thanks. Maybe I'm off base here, but if power supplied by the circuitry is the issue, wouldn't a software switch free up some amps to power the GPS screen refresh - such as turning off the 2D or SI sonar during full screen GPS function. Maybe there are some other feature that could be powered down.

Every time I tried to ask a technical question, I have been told that they can not respond to the question as it would give the competitor an advantage.
Sounds like a Robert Gibbs answer to me.
HB has yet to explain the slow response issues to us fellers and fellerettes that go slow. I get around the problem, but it should be resolved by HB, if, it is indeed a flaw in the design.
We are being stonewalled.
I like the SI , however the GPS sucks.
As I've used mine and pondered on the slow response, a thought crossed
my mind. Probably wrong, so feel free to shoot fulla holes :)
The most neato part of SI to me, is being able to cursor over and
mark things you see off to the side and behind you... What if: This is a purposeful, designed-in lag or delay in the heading update, so as to dampen changes in the boats
course and make this function work better (or at all)
Of course if this were the case, it begs the question why does it affect the
non-SI sister products as well. Again, supposing, but it would be far from the
first time something like this was done (I'm speaking broadly of all sorts
of mechanical things) as a cost saving measure, to lessen the number of
parts variations, easing manufacture.
Maybe this (or something) similar is why they are so elusive and mention
competitors as a reason for not talking?
On a side note, I've seen videos of the new Lowrance SI, but have yet
to see a cursor shown on the screen, or hear of being able to mark spots
on the screen like H'bird. Has anyone else? I mean I ASSUME it would have
this feature, but
I saw them mark stuff on the fly with a cursor Jeff (video). No delay.
Your "what if" is a good case. But, seems to me if this was the case, HB would have defined it and not have procrastinated about a fix or hide it's head in the sand hoping sand turds like me would go away. I believe HB should fess up and give us some direction.
I ain't buying no mo SIs from nobody. One is enough:eek:

I haven't seen it on non SI ones, they work great
Guys I usually don’t post on this board as I keep plenty busy on other boards and have some duties that I am supposed to get completed here at Humminbird. I’m on here today as someone alerted me to this post and so am responding.
If you read that part of the referenced thread you will find that my answer was to his question about using the newer GR50 and GRHA GPA Receivers, which draw more current than the GR16 GPS Receiver does, with his 797 unit and whether there would be any new upcoming GPS receiver that would be more accurate or if there would be a software download that would allow the GR50/HA to be used with the 797 unit. This was what was commented to and not the slow GPS response that has so well documented. That, as far as I know, is still being looked into [before you start responding to that: I do not know what our Engineers are working on, so I don’t know if they are still working on this, working on something else or what]. I don’t think that a software download will help in using a GR50/HA with the older units as this is controlled and therefore limited by the electronic components that are used in the circuitry that provides the power to the GPS Receiver and all accessories connected to the COM connector on these units. The power provided to the GPS Receiver does not come straight from the +12 volt connection to the battery but is switched through the circuitry of the unit. What would be needed is a component change and this is not possible due to the size of the components needed.
I hope now that you understand my response to RO’s posted question.
Greg Walters at Humminbird
Glad to see you respond so quickly. HB got time to put new stuff on the market, but not time to fix our problem with the gps. It is a long time problem with lots of your units.
My (our) problem must be on the bottom of the totem pole where all the crap falls.
Just like to keep the pot stirred 'ya know.
When this problem is fixed, I will shut up. Promise.
Your friend,
Tom
Like I said I got directed here to this post and it has been a slow Friday for me…
I don’t know where it’s on the list but I do know that it’s on the list. Hopefully we will get a fix for this. When that happens you can be assured that we will post something out here for everyone to know.
I wouldn’t want you to shut up Tom. You and others provide us with good feedback on our products and how they are used in the real world. Now like all manufacturers we don’t like to hear that we have any problems with our products; but its better to know you have a problem than not. If you don’t know that Customers are having a problem with your product, there is no way to fix it. Even if it does take a long time to do so.
You are right on all counts, why spend on HB stuff when it don't work, & me thinks if HB hasn't done the right thing by now well its just more "sand" from here on.......:mad:Quote:

Check the Texas forum a tread named lowrance, it is very informative on the newest Lowrance innovation SI and Down Immaging with regular sonar, there is also a you tube video with it.
