T-Ville Hybrids & Motor Issue

We caught nine hybrids in about four hours while getting blown off the water by all the water lice. One went six pounds while the rest were in the pound to pound and a half range. Nice day for being 90 degrees today.

As for my boat I think it is a fuel filter issue but I will tell you what it is doing. First off, I towed another bass boat in about two miles but went real slow. To thank me he filled up my boat at the marina. Before that all was fine. Maybe an hour after that I was trolling with the big motor and we stalled. It wouldn't start until we primed it and then it ran for about five minutes and satlled again. We primed it again and I ran it wide open and it ran fine. After that we trolled with the trolling motor. When we went to head home it would keep stalling just trying to take off. I primed it and it then took off. Once in the marina at ideal speed we stalled again and continued to do so until we primed it. Any suggestions? I am guessing a fuel filter but was a little concerned if I might have screwed up something tolling the guy in or bad gas but then I watched four other boats getting gas when I was and no one else appeared to be having any problems. I am in a tournament this weekend so I need a quick fix.

My pontoon was doing the same and it was a dirty fuel filter. Could also be water in the gas or bad plugs.

Could be Ignition Coil heating up or cracked. I have seen this once while in Canada. Ended our trip - we had a spare Fuel Filter changed Spark Plugs and finally had to leave because when you go 15 to 20 miles one way each day it's way to risky having an Outboard fail on the water. Took it in and turned out to be the Ignition Coil on one cylinder.

Sounds like a clogged filter, fuel line air leak or bad fuel pump to me.

Check for water in gas also bad fuel line primer bulb assembly.

glad to hear there are still some good sized 'birds still roaming around on Tville.

Did you happen to find them up around the horseshoe bend area ?? Were you spider'n with jigs, longlining, or were ya using the HotnTot/jig rig ??

Did you get a chance to look at that "secret" Bass bank I told you about :confused: :p
Just some FYI ... that same bank is also pretty good in the early Fall ... bumping spinnerbaits against the stickups ;)

Caught them on the edge of the river channel next to the hump. We were trolling 1/4 ounce jigs of different colors but it seemed to be best on the ones that were watermelon color. The creel limit man talked to us and said he had seen a lot of good hybrids. Talked to my boat maintanence man and he is backed up two to three weeks. It never ends. I am going to start by changing the fuel filter and plugs. He also suggested putting a conditioner into the fuel and mentioned a carborator cleaner but not sure how to install that.

I would add some Sea Foam to the gas and see if that doesn't help. I put it in every time i add gas. Could be a leaking connection at the the tank or a cracked fuel line. But, I'm with you, probably a bad batch of gas, the Sea Foam will help that.

By the way, do you have a good mechanic? I can't find one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and isn't booked up for a year in advance.

I'd also try the Sea Foam. Hopefully that will solve your problem.

I take my boat to S&S Marine over in Indiana. I bought my boat from them and during the spring fishing run they seem to get me in and out in a day or two. Notice I said spring run because I called today just to see how booked up they are and they told me two weeks. I have also taken my boat to Professional Marine out on Poplar Level Road with not very good success and they are booked up all the time. A good buddy of mine is always trying to get me to take my boat to a fellow right off the Western KY Pkwy in Litchfield. He is off to the left at the exit ramp. Being that far away from Louisville I would say it is less expensive and less booked up. Might be worth a look. Let me know if you want me to get you a name and number. Tha same buddy suggested to me to use the SeaFoam earlier. I must be living under a rock because I never heard of it but I will locate it and start using it.

Get it at WalMart, around $8 a can. Automotive section. Sounds like it could be a couple of problems. Fuel pump, bad primer bulb losing prime which means it has an air leak, or you have a bad fuel line (leaking) or connector, check for leaks. It could be your stator or a power pack also. Good Luck.

Wll, I believe SeaFoam did the trick. I put it in and drove the boat around the neighborhood for a few minutes to splash it around and mix it. I primed the ball and it fired right up. I let it run for about 15 minutes and it never stalled. I then waited about an hour and did the same thing. I engaged the propellor some and just let it idea some. I ran up the RPM's at times and let it just idea at others. It never stalled. I bleieve I am still going to change the plugs to be safe but I believe the stuff actually worked. I won't know for sure until this weekend when I put it in the water because I can tell a whole lot more that way then when it is on the trailor. It sounds good now but I still want to hear it in the water to confirm everything is good before I take off across the lake. Tommorow night we are taking my buddies boat just to be safe. Nothing worse then breaking down during a night tournament. Thanks everyone for your help. Like usual KY Crappie.com has saved me a bunch of money and taught me how to fix more easy fixes.
