Does this look like thermocline on my depthfinder?

I do not believe it is a weedline as I usually don't have problems with weeds in this pond. Just seems early for thermocline as the surface temps were only 78 yesterday. The slight returns along the bottom was consistent across the pond at depths below say 9 feet.
I would say that is a hard bottom.
No, I mean the slight returns between the fish and the hard bottom. I would think it was weeds on another lake but not this pond.
I believe if you turn down your sensitivity that clutter would disappear. I am no expert on finding the thermacline but would guess this to be plankton with high sensitivity.
you know i see that at times with my ff, i always thought the water might be dirty,little pieces of weeds or small bait fish floating around. The thermocline is normally a tighter line going across your screen and i dought it would be that deep any how with those temps, mine is a color unit and its easier to see the thermocline

I see what you're looking at (the "greyed" area under the two 11' markings). I'm no expert on thermocline ID either, but like it was said here, (and I'm speaking for an Eagle 480) normally, there's a fairly pronounced dark line that defines the thermocline layer, and on this lake, more times than not in summer months, you will see thick arches (or fish symbols) from that dark line several feet on upwards which makes it more understandable. Here, in water averaging 20', the thermocline seems to average 13' - 14' July - Sept. Agreeing with others, you can see it pretty good by playing with the sensitivity, and a tighter pixel count is a plus.Quote:

looking at my screen shots of my Lowrance i would say the thermocline is around 4ft with surface temp around 80 and the rest are fish and bait fish, Is this right ?

I've never heard of a thermocline being so shallow. I think your sensitivity is set too high.
I have a lowrance also, turn your sensitivity down and all that stuff will go away. as for the 4 ft line that is just surface clutter. There is an option for surface clarity in the sonar menu but you sacrifice some bottom clarity with the clear surface so I run my surface clarity low. You ain't gonna mark many fish in the 4 ft range anyway due to the size of the cone. Just my opinion hope it helps
I keep checking back in this thread to see if someone has figured this out!
Even if I turn my sensitivity ALL THE WAY DOWN on my unit, I still cannot get rid of this. Its so bad, it's gotten to the point where I don't even turn my unit on.
Thinking I may have gotten a bad one?

Ready2fish, I'm no expert but I would say that the shots you gave I interpret as having a tcline about 14 or 15 feet. several fish above but no fish below that level. Don't know about the clutter. Have a HB565 and can't turn my sensitivity high enough to get the constant line I've seen on others. still like it though.
Go to another lake and see if it disappears. That oughta tell you something.Quote:
