SHE’S BAAAACK!!
I’m referring to The Bluegill Girl! My youngest Daughter is staying with us for a while and that can’t be done without us going out and flexing on the local panfish population. Last weekend we were joined by the newest trainee, the Guppy. Otherwise known as my granddaughter Tahlia. The three of us made a short trip that was called by the heat but not before we had boated at least forty fish from a few different places. Tahlia doesn’t cast yet so we would connect and hand it off to her to reel and land, then released right after the kiss goodbye. Huge smiles all around as we got to the ramp and later as we brought Manga (grandma) up to speed on our trip.
Well this week Tahlia is off to stay with her Dad for a few days before school starts so BGG and I headed out about 7 with Nino along with us. We headed up to someplace I haven’t been for many years, Highland Park Fish Camp. This puts you on the Norris Dead River according to the ID on the pictures. To begin the day, it was a grind. Probably about an hour, maybe more, before we chased the skunk out of the boat. Nino didn’t wait and had his skunk out of the way in the first ten minutes. Throwing to what looked fishy and looking for the bank I like to see, we eased up to an overhanging tree and started getting the telltale bumps of a good mess of fish. I turned around and spot locked and didn’t move for two and a half hours. Jessie was throwing a black hand tied beetle spin and I threw one of my soon to be famous little brown bugs. One after the other, first we caught CNBG and then the Shellcrackers woke up and really started warming up the drag. Several of those were close or over ten inches and thick, very well fed. Total was near to over twenty ‘Crackers and near twice that of the CNBG that were all very nice with very few under 7 1/2”. All of them gave a good accounting of themselves, like they were extra aggressive today. Jessie was sure she had a big cracker on to find an 8” redbreast had tried to take her rod away. Never more than a cast or two between fish until they got the email and slowly shut down. Folks, I’ve got a bunch of pics to share, sorry if they run long. With all the negativity in her life right now it was good to see her smile and enjoy the morning. We’ll go again soon but the oncoming storm will probably hold us off til next weekend. Another bright spot on the way home, the job she’s hoping for got one more step closer and an interview will be set up for later in the week. Dads pretty happy right now too. Anyway, here’s the pics and any prayers for her would be appreciated. Til next time……Skeet
