Broken Soare
Sometimes I get line wrapped around the tip, usually when I set the hook and miss the strike and it usually comes free with a couple of rod shakes. This time line wrapped around tip with a hooked fish which kept the line tight and when I cranked the reel the tip folded over and broke. After 5 1/2 years of hard use my favorite rod which once had hot pink guide wraps that were sun bleached white had broken. Luckily, since I like the rod so much I ordered a second one plus a replacement tip just in case I broke the first one since the tip on these is .8 mm. Anyone else having line wrap issues with these tiny guides? I'm using 2-3# mono.

Sorry to hear about your broken rod .
I too have issues with line wrap . That’s one of the reasons I went back to 2# Floroclear from using braided line .
The Floroclear is a fluorocarbon coated co-polymer and tends to curls if stressed, but just being a super thin line creates a problem with wind wrap.
I think it’s just something with light line that one has to deal with.
Buying backup rods and tips are a good insurance plan IMO .
That’s why I wanted a couple of the Abu Garcia MB 3 rods . I can’t imagine trying to find a tip section for one .

Hard to lose an old friend

Not how I broke my Abu Mass Beat extreme, but close. I was fishing trout magnet and was doing fine except one incident where I had a tug but set the hook after evidently the fish spit out and the jig grabbed the under growth instead....bang head!!

Hate you broke your favorite rod Jim. Glad you have replacement.

I haven’t had any issues…but that could show up anytime, especially since I’m using PE line a lot more. In 13 years of using JDM rods only broke two. And they were broken by plain stupidity.

Sorry to hear of the loss. As said already here kind of like old friends. I deal with tip wrap too but I’ve tried to pay more attention to the direction of the rod tip. If I turn sideways and the line goes slack it’s almost a guaranteed wrap, but if I keep mostly pointed in the direction of the bait there are much less at the end of the day. I haven’t broken one yet but there’s time and my rods seem to be getting lighter. Glad you had a backup Jim.

Where do you buy a replacement tip from? Just in case I break mine haha

I don't buy expensive rods but when a friend decided to quit fishing for a while bought one of his st croix 10 foot UL rod with shimano reel outfits that had braid. First time I took it out was casting out a ways to brush piles using bobber when dang tip broke just from flinging the line out. my buddy sent it back but it cost lot more than I usually pay for a rod just for the tip. My only braid experience and I stripped it off.
Usually use 2 to 8 lb hi vis mono and don't have any issues with that. with most of my many different brand rods I will epoxy a tip from a rod I use for parts or simply epoxy a end guide on it and use it slightly shorter than it was.
Been using a Sam Heaton Super sensitive 7 foot UL rod as my go to this last year and really like that. Plus BnM was great at sending me replacement top or bottom piece when it broke. I did learn not to over stress it when hung up but to grab the line and work it or break it off and then no issues. BTW it handled a couple of big wipers or drums when I hooked into them.

Since the tip was so tiny at .8 mm I thought it would break eventually so I ordered another rod with two replacement tips. The two replacement tips cost almost as much as a new rod. Broke another tip so both rods now have replacement tips on them. Skeetbum fixed my two broken tips for me and now instead of using two 7 footers I fish with one and the other is now 6'10". Really like the action on the fixed tip, a little faster action than the 7 footer.
