Our group makes a trip to Florida every year to crappie fish. We rent a house on the River at Astor and fish the river and connected lakes. Although we’re a short run from it, we’ve never fished Lake George, and I never hear of anyone fishing it. I’m wondering if anyone can give me some information about Lake George and its fishing. Thanks.
Sorry I've not fished it either. Will follow this thread though cause of my interest as well.

I just returned from Astor ( stayed at Anglers Riverside Retreat ) and fished mainly the St Johns River area up to Lake George! The locals and winter transplants were all fishing the river and Dexter. We did wander up that way, stopped short of the lake while still in the river, and ran into a slew of striped bass, which was a blast on crappie gear.
The reason no one fishes George for crappie, is the huge boats that are constantly on it. We had 2 come back into Astor and the wake they threw off, even at idle speed, washed
over my boat as well as a few others that were fishing the river. I flew them the American Thank You sign! :Rofl
If you are crappie fishing, I would stay in the river or hit Dexter. There was word out that Dexter was starting to come on. My buddy down there, called us on our way home and spoke of 2 different boats of his neighbors that came in with limits on Thursday, all from Dexter. The fish in the river were in the 10' - 13' zone in about 18-22 ft of water.
Also, keep an eye on the water levels.. if the water is up more than a foot or so, I would hit Mud Tick Lake. It was only 2 - 4 ft when we were just there, but it it gets up to around 3-5' or so, they will be in there. That is where we fished last year out of my buddies boat.
Almost all of the females we caught, were full of eggs, but none of them were bloody/red yet. Its getting close.. Temps just killed us tho.

The fish I've found on the north side of George (up to little lake George) they have been in deeper water like icehouse stated. Start a bit shallower and work your way down, with this cold front you have to deal with the fish having stocking caps on along with the face masks are make it hard to get a bite. :)
Thanks for the info. We’re leaving Wednesday and fishing for about a week and a half. Interesting about Mud Tick Lake, I’ve been into it, but never fished it. I always assumed that about any wind would make George hard to fish. Just never see any reports from there.

We should get out of N Arkansas just ahead of the snow and cold spell. We look forward to this trip every year and learn a little more each trip. The forecast looks good. We long line troll for the most part.Quote:

Have seen 5 ft waves 1 of the times & was lucky I was near the south rim & the St. John's. If you can find it, there's a good video of Wally Marshall fishing George.... W/the size of fish it holds. Even caught a smaller red fish...good luck.
