After looking at the picture of the gator i saw Monday, I think it is a different gator than the big one i had the video of. The first 2 pics are of the one with the video. It went in the water so fast i did not get a real good look at it. if you zoom in and Look at the back of the tail. It has part of the fin missing and a chunk out of his tail. The other one looked longer also. Is this stumpy?
Hmmmm. I was thinking at work today how do we know it’s not different gators. River boss can maybe tell us more. I have saw stumpy but it was years ago. Before cell planes that took pictures. Lol

The big Bull gator is huge. I know that typically a mature male gator will fight any other males that come in his area (this is the reason you see gators with limbs torn off). Females usually never get over about 9 feet and I'd say 7 or 8 is most common. I mention this because if the gator was about the same size, then it's probably the same adult male. If there are two Gators about the same length, males are usually broader and weight about 1/3 more. Just my 2 cents from experiences in Georgia.
Team things make my skin crawl.....I like to see em but from a distance.
I have no idea how to tell a male from a female. But stumpy was every bit of 10 feet 20 years ago.

But best I remember stumpys tail looked like a clean cut. Kind of just squared off. Had a picture at one time of it in the water. But long gone.

Ditch is no doubt correct that a dominant male would chase off any competition and I cant say Ive ever seen stumpy for sure live, only photos the wardens took. I have seen large gators in 2 diff places only minutes apart but until recently never considered it could be the same gator in both places as they werent that far apart....Stumpy was a reported 9 ft when the wardens photo'ed her20 years ago so if she is still around, could be even bigger.......My estimate of the gator on display in Cabela's is a nine footer for reference...Quote:

Always laid on the bank in the same spot. We got right up fairly close several times. Once we were spotted off in the water. Would come up in the middle and just float. One time my buddy went around in the woods on the other side to try and get a picture. When it saw him on that bank it started that way pretty quickly. We always thought maybe there were little ones over there. I know we saw something strange about the tail but that’s been a long time and I work in paint fumes every day. My memory isn’t great.
