I am addicted
Well took a change of pace today fishing at my local lake (Contra Loma), and tried for some bluegill. What can I say, I am addicted! I was using redworms with about a 12 inch gap between the hook and bobber. Fun little buggers to catch. Anyways, what artificial lures does bluegill like? Fish on!

I have used the same jigs and tubes on gills that I have used on crappies. They like wax worms/bee moths alot.

Ok, I am going back out today for more action. I am addicted lol.

You might also try a tiny "beetle spin" found at your local Wal-mart.

Ok. Well the spot I got is producing , but no big ones. Also, I find it hard to hook the buggers cause of their small mouths. Any tips? I am using pretty small hooks. Not sure on the size, but they are eagle claw red for salmon eggs.

Almost any type of fly or small jig works well for bluegills. I saw Bill Dance's show this weekend. He was using the beetle spin, but he replaced the original body with a tube.
For bait fishing, I use a #14 hook. For jig/fly fishing, I'll use anything from a #8-#16.

Try one of Crappieday's smallest microspoons tipped with one maggot. Black has been working for us. We're hammering the gills with them.

I find that meat is not required on small hair or feathur jigs.
There are several jig tyers that will attest to that.
Here one of many caught this spring on a 64th oz. hair jig.

Nice fish, I've never tried hair jigs for bluegills. Just always stuck with tiny plastics. I might try that.
