Was wondering how many of y'all use side imaging on the bow? I prefer casting to spider rigging in water 10 feet or less. SOOO I thought side imaging might be the better method of finding the shallow habitat to cast to and not chance spooking the fish going directly over the habitat to locate it. Your thoughts please. Also do any of you use the casting rings option on your waypoints and would that be just as well in the described scenario? Thanks for sharing all.
I prefer long lining jigs and trolling crank baits. I will also stop and cast for crappies even every now and then vertical jigging as well as occasionally spider rigging jigs and cranks. I use my side imaging constantly up front looking for fish and at structure on the sides of the boat. Sometimes the fish are along the side of you and not in front of you. Mix the side imaging with DI and you have the best of both worlds in my book. Yep, SI on the front and back both.
There's no better tool than Side Imaging for finding "unknown" fishy spots - while moving from "known" fishy spot to "known" fishy spot ...

I just have the one unit (Garmin 93sv chirp) and it is on my TM--bow mounted. 14' jon boat btw. At the time of purchase most were of the opinion that it was not the best application, and you still hear some of that. Watched a Doug V vid where he pretty well dispelled all that nonsense. I agree 100% with Rickie. Hope I never have to do w/o it on the TM, great seeing things unfold right where I am--not 14' away. My .02
I like having my unit on the bow also. Seen structure and fish off to the side several times that I would have missed. I also have used the casting rings on my Humingbird. It is easier to be able to check a spot out without dropping a buoy out and having to take it up when no fish are there and others can't pin point your honey hole out if a buoy is not there.:twocents
On the bow because that is where I do most of my fishing.
Still use a marker at times, but, I can hear spot-lock a-callin' ...
Is casting rings a humminbird waypoint function?
Just curious if on your bow unit are you are running of the transom TD, or a TD mounted on your Trolling Motor. I tried running of a Trolling Motor mounted TD and could not read the SI screen due to the constant rotation back and forth of the Trolling Motor. Maybe I setup something wrong!
If I was doing something like that, I would get the 360 instead of side imaging up front. But thats just me.
I use Rickie’s Da Ducer on the front of my Jon boat for my 2 fishfinders on the front. Works like a charm for SI and DI as well as Sonar.Quote:
