New to crappie fishing in texas. When I lived in Illinois i crappie fished a lot. We either used minnows or a 2 inch white grub. What does everyone prefer to use down here color and specific brand? Only bad thing is I am located in the hill country by uvalde, so not many crappie lakes close by. We fish the nueces river a lot in crystal city since my wife is from there, and have caught some there. Where else is there that has good crappie fishing? Thanks for the help.
Black & chartreuse shad, pink & chartreuse are usually my go to colors depending on available light. Run some more realistic colors if its clear water. I do have some random colors I throw out there at times to shake them up.

Is there any crappie in amistad?
Not sure buddy. Im in the north east. I looked on the TPWD website and they dont show it as a prominent species there. If it does they would be very few and far between

thanks that is what i have heard. I wonder why they arent in that lake. i have an itch to go crappie fishing this weekend but not sure where to go.
I use how far I can see my jig down to pick the color I will start with. If I can see it 3 feet down or more I use something like Silver/Silver/FL Blue or something I know will work in what I call clear water and if I can't see it that far down like 1 1/2' to 3' down I like a Chartreuse/Blue/Chartreuse (my faverate) or maybe Chartreuse/Black/Blue. If it has been raining a good bit and it really stained bad I like a Flame Red/Black & FL Yellow/Hot Orange and this also works great if you find some on beds really shallow. There are also a lot of other colors that work really well!
I almost forgot one that works well in lots of water conditions, Silver/Blue/White.

Probably some smaller local lakes have them , but I don't know the area ....I know one of those big lakes on the border has big ones in it ....not sure what lake though .
Natural colors daytime clear waters ....rest of the time some combination of chart and something or just chart ....bright orange is deadly in the spring time here as well .....best of luck to ya
Keep in mind this ....they are in just about EVERY drop of water in these parts for sure ....don't let the printed versions of what and where stop ya ....I would bet there are good numbers of them in Amistad
Theres always a chance they are in there. They found paddlefish at the spillway at LOP this week and Ive never heard of them being in there. That just shows anything is possible.

When I was stationed in San Antonio (2000-2006) I worked with someone that had a place on Medina Lake. I seem to remember them talking about the crappie fishing there. Worth a try anyway.
