Compression test
Gents
I still have my carb assembly off my outboard waiting on a part but I've been told to do a compression test too.
Would it matter if I've put it back together before doing a compression test?
I can't see why it would
Thanks

Ok i tried to reply one time and it didn't pop up. I work on cars at honda and if it is anything like a car you shouldn't have to put the carb back on. You don't need it to run when doing a compression test anyways.

Just make sure nothing loose around intake to get into engine.secure any linkages that might get to flopping around when spinning motor over.

Thanks
That's what if figured
It's all about the pistons side not the fuel side I'm guessing.

compression test will tell you what shape your motor is in, I done mine when it was new and wrote it down, a mercury 115,
2005, it was around 138 to 140 each piston, I checked it a while back and it is better now that when it was new, 150+ on each piston.

That would be nice but I'm hoping every thing is acceptable

Brett, you got your motor back together? :popcorn

I tried but it had gas leakage all over the carbs,
It could have been just one loose hose but it was a mess,
I may have to replace more gaskets
The actual process is not hard, process of disassembly , cleaning, reassembly, but obviously I don't have have the reinstall right yet
Will try tomorrow
I'm determined to learn this skill

I got the leak fixed, loose hose, started instantly!
I proceeded to adjust carbs now they're all screwed up
, won't start, grrrr,
I never know when to quit

Compression test should be performed with throttle wide open, 5 strokes per cylinder.
So it would be safe to say that you don't need carb's on to perform test.
