Bream iID

We have a big pond in Grenada that is 7 years old. Its an old bottom that was cutover and my father in law damned it up. The Corp. came out to survey prior to building and gave the ok but said it would never hold enough water. Well the lake is around 20+ feet at the damn and it is crystal clear. I caught these while bass fishing and when I would reel them to the boat the whole school would follow. It an awesome pond! It was stocked with F1 bass and 3 different bream. They put hybrid bream, redear and bluegill. Is that what is in these picture. Have the cross breed? Notice the yellow on the tips of the fins.

We call them sun perch Mac. But these here don't get that big

That bull head thing on the bottom.... Is that a hybrid?

Looks like bluegills and goggle eyes to me. Sometimes it can be hard to tell, many different color variations. Your clear water can make them have a totally different look than the same fish in a muddier pond.

None of the fish caught are goggle eyes/war mouth. I have caught lots of those, they have a larger mouth. These all have the small bluegill mouth.

Not sure on ID, I do know rolled in batter and fried in peanut oil they all will be quite tasty.. Lol.

My parents stocked a pond, about 8 acres with bluegill, bass and hybrid bream about 13 years ago. Guy at the hatchery said hybrids can't reproduce with themselves or other gills. He said they would gone in about 5 years and would have to reintroduce the hybrids if wanted more. Well I can say some did reproduce cause they still had a few (very few) up until this spring and he had pond restocked. Was catching some odd looking fish out of there as well (hybrid bluegill cross don't know), but they all are good eating. And boy do those hybrids get big, I bet some we caught would get up 1 1/2 pounds or so. Some have deformities, big humps on there heads, one eye, and a general unsightly appearance, but man o man they are good in the grease.
