10/6? How did ya do?. The area has sparked up real well and you should have no problems entrrtaining yourself. But when are you actually coming? 11/6 maybe? We will all be fishing Lake Harney on 11/7, its about an hour and 15 minutes from Astor but should have a large time if you can make it. CS Lee is the launch site and sticky up top if your inclined. Be glad to have ya join us.
I haven't fished it in years but be ready to jig and cork the weed clusters, always put some in the boat for me. And across the river from the Blackwater inn for the good seafood.
Try contacting Highlands Fish camp.............right down the way from Woody and Dexter..............they usually have some good reports depending on who answers the phone. Good luck!
Sorry, I will be there 11/6 for 2 weeks. JC
Fished Dexter about a month ago...we barely fished 2 hours(chased off by a thunderstorm). Caught around 20 real fast, but largest fish was 12". I remember your posts each year. You always find em. :) Good luck and look forward to seeing your pictures.
The place on the east side of the river is called Castaways. Very good food. The fish camp I stay at was called Front St. Bait. The old owners just wear not cut out to run a business. The new owner / operator is Donny Fletcher, he has renamed it "Anglers Riverside Retreat" He is making improvements to every part of the camp. He has 6 cabins, boat slip with each cabin, any kind of bait you need and tackle. Also the office/bait shop is a beer bar. Its a nice little local place to have a cold beer. There is a pool table, darts and all around good times there. Check it out if your ever in Astor. JC
Anglers Riverside Retreat on the St. Johns River in Astor Florida
Not to be dumb but I don't know the name of it. Halls comes to mind but I'm not sure. Blackwater has a good steak but is a bit pricey. Directly across the river, southeast corner of the bridge always had a fresh menu of crabs and shrimp and so on and was more affordable but not cheap by any means. No such thing as good cheap seafood in the state that I have found. Several over near NSB or Port Orange but that's a drive from Astor. Things change too and I have old info, but the locals are friendly and will point you in the right direction if approached in a friendly way.
I just got in this morning. I will be going out in the morning to start the hunt. A side note about the seafood place others have ask about in Astor is called Castaways, But....... It is no longer on the east side of the river it has closed and will reopen later this week west of the river about 3 miles at the old Sterlings restaurant on highway 40. I will post reports and time progresses. JC
