I was on trip here recently with a friend that does not run a unit upfront. He told me that he thought that the noise from the transducer spooks the fish. He runs his unit from the console with the transducer at the back of the boat. What are your thoughts? I run a unit on the bow and console.
I never heard of that one, I have no problem with mine, as far as I can tell. I do know on certain days, the hum of a troll motor will scare fish. Catfish on hooked on jugs, hear It up to 50yards away.
I had not either. He said the clicking from the transducer can spook them. I have been running a unit upfront for a long time and never seen a issue.Quote:

I figure maybe they can feel it with the lateral line.The weak pulse of energy.Especially where it is real strong like in shallow water with a hard bottom.I do not think their is much in a fishes environment they are oblivious too. In most of the high pressure lakes I fish,some days in the spring it is nearly like traffic on a highway,the boats one after another that almost follow one another around. I think the fish have grown accustomed to it for the most part. As long as your boat is not to close or to loud,and your presentation and lure or bait type is right you'll get bit.
They get "pinged" about a million times a day some days LOL
If I sit in one place a long time its sort of interesting watching the spider riggers work over the water.Reminds me of like shrimp trawlers one after another basically mowing the lawn to find the fish.The fish have to get use to that and adapt.Sort of how they get use to the noise under a train trestle or road bridge.
If you fish a shallow body water like an old swamp or oxbow slough and your in the timber moving around....you will catch more fish with a small john boat and a scull paddle being real quite.At least it seemed like I did when I use to do that...long time ago
Another reason long line trolling is so effective....fish thinks your long gone ..LOL
