Crankbaiiting ?
Just read a good article on the home age about crank bait fishing. Sound like August is the preferred month. Does anyone here on the Florida forum use this method. I don't hear much about it . Is this just a preferred method for white crappie or will the black bite as well? Thinking of giving it a try. Thanks for any info.

Have crankbaited in Florida for several years..................
You will and can catch spec's..........various times (months)
Most down here use a "floater" style crank vs - lipless crank.
Obvoius reason when you hook a fish most trollers (long-liners) stop the boat
(lipliss sink instantly)but they have a much small tighter wiggle or vibration.
Once went across Walk-in-Water from dock to east side at wooden pier and in
one pass - boated 117 spec's - (i was running boat & john peyton was on rods
for his first time ever) Max road use for me is 6............
2 - 10's - 2 - 8's & 2-6's.......................
When pulling cranks you will also catch other kinds of fish: ie: bass - mud fish -
gar - cat fish - blue-gill
Line weight & rod flex will be of importance..........6 lb in our area - 8 lb in
Crescent / Talquin area.
Have used 4 lb, but take to many breakoffs at $3.50 per crank can get costly.

Thanks Harold, sounds good..I have some Bandits 200 & 300 picked up on sale a while back..going to give it a try.

Blue's - Black's anything of silver nature to immitate a silver shad...
Should have some fun at it..
Never have fished Bandits - several guys on CdC use them or the Arkee style
floater crankbaits............

Curious why you would stop boat with fish on? Seems like a recipe for disaster of tangled lines. I would just keep on keepin on same as longlining jigs.

i agree Mike, i personally never slow up, can't with lip liss baits, just kinda thought
(naving never worked with foaters) that if slowed boat to land fish - cranks came
up - tangles i can't answer. Even when long-lining jigs - i never stop - can't....
Although can't come close to being any kind of authority - as i very rarely long-line,
mostly spider rig.
Crescent - Sante-Fe - Crooked - Newman (occassionly) Dorr - to a degree
of time of year & water clearity.

After water temps get above 75. Cranks work well
The hotter the better 100 dgr. Is best pull 1.5 to2.75 hotter the water the faster you pull. Warning! Is very addictive? And can be expensive. Bandits & Arkies work best.

Thanks..I tried it the other day. Not much success. Maybe I need to speed it up...was running 1.2 - 1.4.
Caught 1with in just a few minutes and that was it..I'll try it again in a few days.Attachment 212039

I never slow down the boat....just keep on going while you reel the fish in.

Remember- hotter the water the faster the speed.
