I think I'm about to make the jump on a SI unit. I'm looking at either the 899 or 999. Other than the 999 having a bigger screen and the better transducer, what's the difference? Is it worth $500 more? I'm going from a 535 to one of these so it's a step up either way.
I haven't done any research on the 999, but I do have the 899. There is a transducer exchange on these and you can get the HDSI transducer for less than $100 I think. Hope I'm right on this, but you can save about $400 if the screen size is okay for you.
With any SI unit ...... BIGGER is better..... Get the biggest one that fits your budget...... You will NEVER be sorry you go the larger unit. By the time you upgrader the transducer on the 899, the price difference is smaller.
If you are going to invest in SI, the HDSI transducer and screen size together make a BiG difference.

I got the 999ci HD KVD SI Combo (love it) after much research. Good value ; it is bigger and comes with HD SI transducer. I got mine a few years ; back then the exchange to HD was $180. To me - bigger screen & better transducer = worth it. I would get the biggest screen you can afford; in the SI world bigger is better.
Ordered the 999 from BBG Marine. Should have it Thursday. Damn this is getting expensive. I barely gave that for my boat [emoji33]
