2015 Crappie
I tourney fish, guide and in general am ate up with chasing crappie. I thought I'd start posting here if you guys will have me.
This is how my year has gone so far and after today I'll keep the reports current.
Lake O The Pines. Written in January
Well yesterday all I could think about during the weigh in at Lake O the Pines and on my long drive home was how we got to the winners seat. One has to have a strong support group to accomplish their goals. I knew this but it really hit me the hardest yesterday realizing how blessed I really am.
Thanks to my wife, my parents, my friends and awesome sponsors I'm able to do what I do. I'm very thankful for all of you and want to aknowledge you all. The support you've given me is priceless in all that I do.
As for the tournament we were on big fish last week and the day before the tourney as we prefished. Boy was that a blast. I can't wait till the next tourney in February. This one will be much closer to home.
We targeted the river channel fishing 36' of water and targeting the smallest of cover. The first fish caught hammered a Bonehead silver shad slim stitck and took off. I told Josh as my rod went bendo I don't need a net it's a huge white bass.Well it wasn't a magnum sandie but a huge mad slab.
Josh and I kept our heads down and fished hard during the whole tourney not worrying about anything but catching big crappie and having fun.
We two poled against the spider riggers and won the battle yesterday pulling an official new Crappie Anglers of Texas biggest 7 fish stringer of 14.96#.

Lake Tawokani Report Febuary
Now that the tourney is over I figure I can share what I found. We caught nice fish throughout prefish but the wind and mother nature beat us on tourney day. We were blown off the lake.
We caught fish from the dam to the bridge during pre fish.. Fish caught on the dam were caught just off the bottom in 25 - 35'. Fish off the creek channel where suspended at 25' and the fish caught at the bridge were suspended 3' off the bottom near the creek channels.
As it warmed a few days we decided to look shallow. First drop another 2# fish gave it up in 6' of water. After this northern blows through there will be a hard push into the shallows. Focus on banks with sand shoreline.
Fish seemed to prefer white pearl or neon green Bonehead "Stump Bugs". I had tandem jigs set 2' apart while fishing bridge columns and deep timber.
I hope this helps for anyone wanting to fish it soon. The next time we have a couple of warm days it'll be on at Twak. The lake is low. I launched from all three open ramps recently so if there are any questions just ask.
Had a blast on Tawokani with good friends.

Tommy, I guess the lesson I need to learn is how to keep them alive after bringing them up from 35 ft. We fished the Pines tournament but got blown off by 10. We had 7 solid fish but by 12 our biggest was DOA. We wanted to stay for the weigh in but the grand kids were calling the wife and another three hours was just too long. Hate we missed meeting you.

Oh, and "Welcome to crappie.com".

Thank you sir. It did or I should say has been very windy lately.
I learned at the Twak tourney if the goal for the day is to not sink the boat then "don't even launch".
