What some of your favorite setups when it comes to crappie fishing.
You know single hooks, double hooks, cranking, etc....
Single hook. One jig. One pole. Sometimes 2 poles if conditions allow.
one at a time of everything...not a good multitasker.......
Hard to pin down a favorite...whichever one causes a thrashing resistance at the end of my line...usually changes every trip. ;)
My favorite set up is: A boat, a pole, a beer, my old man and/or my daughter.
Anything else is just details.
Poor guy...probably actually tryin to learn something. I cant help it... my first instinct is sarcasm....rotfl I enjoy tightlining a little bitty hair jig around structure and waiting for that thump. But cant always do that.. It still really depends on conditions, time of year ETC. I guess part of the fun is figuring out whats on their menu for the day...if anything.
I use a slip cork and tube jig and change depths often till I start getting bit...then it gets a lot easier. I ain't figured out tight lining yet cause I have trouble knowing what depth I'm fishing at so the slip cork makes it easier for me. IMO depth is by far the most important factor. You can be fishing the right structure the right total depth of water and the right color, but if your bait is 2 feet above or below the fish, you ain't catching squat. Sometimes I get my first bite fishing to deep and the fish will pick it up about a foot or two before the jig gets to the depth it's set at, that's when I know to shallow up. Oh and some times you just gotta throw a beetle spin around to catch em. Who knows...
I keep a few poles rigged up - a double drop shot rig, slip cork rig, and a casting rig for road runners, etc. when I don't know what to expect. I pre-tie leaders to attach to a snap with different hook sizes, etc. In that manner I can pick on the bream if the crappie aren't interested.
