My remote has been shutting off when long lining on my 80 Riptide ST. I can not get it to come back on until I lift motor and reset it. I just changed the remote battery, but it said it was fine. I haven't had time to put back on the water to test. Has anyone had this problem?

If you are having issues with GPS or navigation and it shuts off, it could be due to where your remote is located. My understanding is the GPS is located within the remote and not the unit. Re-locating the remote to "on the helm" helps in that instance. I've seen people bend over to tie a hook and the thing go haywire due to loss of signal.
Other issues are bad remotes. Best price on a new I-pilot remote that I have found is West Marine. About $20 cheaper than other places.
Your comment about where the remote is can cause loss of sat signal would explain why my spot lock function turns off on a random basis as I have it hanging around my neck when shooting docks. have to try another "spot" so to speak.Quote:

Why you believe the gps is in the remote?
If my GPS was in my remote, my boat would go in circles trying to get to where my peeing spot was located at the last ping from heaven. (Pee Lock)
The remote (rx/tx) is vlp UHF, so it is relatively easy for the remote to loose communication sync with the Ipilot receiver/transmitter. You can walk around your boat and find your weak signal spots. My remote will not penetrate Billbob's head. Pointing the remote in open air toward the Ipilot head unit produces best operating results.
So where is the ipilot GPS antenna ...??

It is in the top of the unit.
Correct, GPS unit is in the top of the TM however, if the remote loses signal with the unit, it will turn it off and on.
We use it alot while trolling in the Upper penninusal of Michigan for Walleye. If it is around your neck and you bend over to tie a knot or do something, it loses signal with the power head. We ended up putting velcro on the back side of the remote and leave it at the helm. No problem since that time.
