Sharper DI

I was running side scan last night looking for fish and found this

Now I usually like blue for DI but I was using this color on the SI and just switched over to DI. I have seen pictures that are crystal clear of tree branches, brush piles, etc. I was trying to figure out if there were any fish holding on this. Either way I marked it since I am not sure what piles look like vs just a tree top. I also tried 800 instead of 455 but the picture appeared to get worse. School me on if this is worth coming back to, and how to get a better image off of it.

Use the Range setting (I think that's what it's called)...under the Sonar menu to eliminate the upper section of the water column...

This will, in effect...zoom the rest of the displayed image...making the structure bigger on the screen..

Depending on the overall depth of this lake, pond ect that could be a great spot depending on the time of year. Lone structure like that will hold fish at some point. If this is a spot that leads to a location where they bed in spring it could be a transition spot going up in there. If this is the deepest spot then winter would be a good time to come back to it. Mark any good looking structure, it's just a waypoint but could be a waypoint that loads the boat one day. After a while you will find that you have several locations marked for anytime of the year or can look for others that match to stay on fish.

If so, I don't think the range settings are there. I know of no way to essentiallt eliminate the top of the water column.
You set the total range to fit the depth. You can zoom in by pushing the + button. But that really degrades the clarity.
If I'm wrong, please correct me.

You may be correct for all the HDS...

I'm probably mis-interpreting the manual for those units...

It states...

Range - Used to select the section of the water column- from the surface to the bottom- shown on the display

Custom "Range" setting is with 2D only..................I think:biggrin

I think that its good to try different colors. Some days I like one color, but on another day, a different color appeals to me

Rickie those are for sonar settings. If there is a bottom lock like the 2d has I haven't found it, I just zoom in.

Lake conditions play a big role in clear images.

No DI Botton lock.
Don't use 2D , maybe I should

Just pres the + once and it zoom in for a closer look
I would also try the blue screen for DI
Also looks like the Contrast is set for Auto but with a -5 bias. I would bring that to 0 but stay in Auto
