Rod Suggestions For Spider Rigging

Hey Yall. Im fairly new to the spider rigging concept and since Im just getting into it I was wondering what rods would work best. I have 3 rods already 1-12' rod and 2-10' B&M rods that I acuired from a buddy. Im not looking to spend a ton on rods just some cheap ones with fairly decent quality. I guess first of all I should tell yall about my setup. I have a SeaHunt 22BxB. The rods holders I purchased are gunnel mounted holders from SpiderKing.com which gives me the option to run 8 rods off the back of my boat. I know traditonally you push the baits instead of pull, but I dont have it set up that way yet. With that said, any suggestions on rods i should use? Thanks in advance for any helpful info.

Monk's Crappie. Get some 12 ft Pinnacal limit rods. Think they are 4 for 60.00. Can use them for rigging or long lining.

Thanks a lot buddy. Exactly the rods I was eyeballing on another site for the same price, just wasn't sure on how good they were. Got the 10footers tho... Going to try those out and possibly also buy some 12 footers.

Im thinking about trying it with some of my regular poles, before I spend any money on the long poles, if I can catch a few it may be worth the investment, I made a 8 rod set up out of 4" pvc pipe, and plan to try it maybe one day next week.

Really can't beat the 4 rods for $60 dollar deal tho if you decide to buy some long rods. I'm kinda in the mindset that cheap rods will catch just as many fish as higher priced rods if used right. You can either get 4 10' rods or 4 12' rods for that price. My buddy that fishes high rock a lot uses regular spinning rods and does just fine. But he knows the lake great from fishing it all his life. What lake are you going to? And Do you have any pics of your setup? I'm looking to do something for the front of my boat and thought it might be cheaper to build my own as well. Planning on hitting Norman tues myself. Best of luck to you if you make it out.

The guys I see consistently winning crappie tournaments use 18-20 ft rods. In the Springtime in shallow water, the boat and trolling motor spooks the fish. You've got to reach way out there for those big ones. The rest of the year when they are deeper, a shorter rod should work fine.

I have been through it all, from starting with what I had, then 10 ft extendable poles I put plastic eyes on and taped on reels, then 13 ft fiberglass extendable poles to 12 ft PSTs then got a set of Pinacals for whomever I might take with me and now 14 ft SouthernCrappie rods. Caught fish on all of them. I have caught just as many fish on the Pinacals as any of them but I do really like the SouthernCrappie poles. I always suggest starting with any poles you already have especially if your fishing over 10-12 ft deep on a regular basis. Caught a lot of fish while fishing an 8 a 9 2/10's and 11 ft jigging poles. Use what you have to find out if it's your cup of Tea. If not your really not out much. One suggestion I have, and understand me I know how finances affect all this but get a good set of rod holders to start. Hi-Tec or Spider Locks and you won't be sorry. Wish I had all the money and time back that I spent building and trying to improve on rod holders.

Thanks Cray. Ill be sure to check out the rod holder options for the front of my boat from both these companys. I would love to find a no drill option that maybe mounted to the seat pedestal for the front. Havent found no such thing yet.

Here is one. I built one similar and didn't like it. Reason, every time I moved in seat holder would move and shake poles. Never fished this one but know a guy who uses one on a Ranger and likes it.

I will post a few pics of mine later tonight, mine was originally made for a pedistal. Will be up around 9 pm
