Gun Question

I have a Browning Light 12 (A5) and a Browning Sweet 16 - got both from my uncle, seem to be very good and function fine with shotgun shells.

Can I shoot rifled hollow point slugs through these to hunt deer - and if so, which gun would you recommend using (or does it matter)?

I already found 12 gauge rifled slugs 2 3/2 1600 velocity 1 oz shells that I have ready to go

Never have hunted, have a chance to deer hunt, but don't want to buy a rifle :)

I also have a .357 mag revolver I could use :) :)

Interesting enough I have those same guns. Yes you can use those slugs in the smooth bore but it won't be as accurate as a rifled barrel would be at distance, will do good enough at 100 yards though. Good luck to you bud.

Don't fire slugs through them if they are full choke barrels.

When I was young and couldn't afford a rifle I used my High Standard 12 Ga, it was 30" full choke and I could keep a group of slugs touching each other at 100 yds! That gun shot slugs as good as most rifles shoot bullets! Too bad it got stolen in 73!

I don't know a lot about guns, and have no clue about choke :) There is nothing attached to the end of the barrel, but being older guns, maybe they have a choke inside the barrel? How would I know - there is nothing on the barrel other than make of gun and shell size...?

Most older shotguns will have the type of choke stamped somewhere on the barrel near the receiver. I was always told on a 12 gauge full choke, a dime wouldn't fit in the end of the barrel. I had read that firing a slug through a full choke bore could open the choke out, or worse, split the barrel.

Look up Midwayusa and give them a call. They can tell you by the serial number and can answer any questions you have.

Won't be full no more!

I wouldn't shoot a slug thru a fine shotgun such as those two, just my 2 cents
