side pullin'

Had to set my boat up to pull with angler on front and rear decks since my front deck is small and I am a whopper. Pullin' cranks was ok. Just pulled mine off the right front and back deck off left rear. 3 poles and it worked fine. Took 3 once and pulled off each side on rear with double seat on rear deck. I just pulled 2 one off each side up front. Now to swap to spider rigging gotta still run 3 up front 3 on rear. Thought about pulling all off the right and trying to side pull. Don't know exactly how to start. Drift socks off the left side? chains front and rear on left side? or just go back to front rt and back left like pullin'?

Gomer, I have a stick steer. I fish poles out the front and back seat fishes poles off right rear. Sardis 2 poles off right front and one off left front. Back is set up 3-5 off right rear and can get a pretty good spread. Haven't seen a big difference in catch rate between the 2. In fact have had back seat out fish me several times.

Just set it up to fish off the side you are most comfortable fishing off of. We are set up to fish off the left side, with the trolling motor mounted on the right side. We don't use chains or drift socks, we just go with the breeze and use the trolling motor to steer and maintain the sideways boat orientation. Both ends of the boat seem to have the same success catching fish.

Just drift use tm to keep it straight.

Im gonna have to get used to folks side pullin if it gets big on the Mississippi COE lakes. I was trollin cranks about a month ago and came up on a boat right in my path that looked like they were spider riggin off the sides like the op is describing. I assumed they were vertical fishing so I deliberately changed my course as to pass them on side opposite of the side they were fishing off of to keep from disturbing them, gave them what I thought at the time was a plenty wide enough birth. They must have been side pullin cause about 10 minutes later they had trolled accross my lines, boat was trolling backwards from the way they were sitting, all the poles were out the port side but they were trolling sideways in the starboard direction. Luckily for me they only hung my longest line but I'm sure I got all theirs tangled. I though I was hung on the bottom until they started hollerin at me and I looked up and saw that they was about 50 yards back from the spot they was in when I passed them. I thought I was doing right by going by on the side that didnt have poles out, I had no idea they were side trollin. I guess if I had gone by in front I would have hung them instead of them hanging me, only way to avoid the situation I guess would have been them paying attention to what was behind them since they were trolling backwards, it was them who crossed my lines after I had passed.

How close did you get to them, 50 yards? You were way to close.

Yep may want to give a little more room. Watched the Gants side pull wiggle warts thru some thick timber up the Skuna and they made it look easy. I thought riggn 6 off the front was tricky up there till I saw them do it side ways. They got talent for sure. Most side pullers I have seen aren't that far from their boat but 50 yards is to close to anyone pullin anything and is closer than you think on the water.

I discovered that when pulling 120-150 ft. back the line runs amazingly shallow for quite a distance before turning downward. At Enid a boat mistook me for someone else and passed around us when he figured out we weren't BRM.lol. They cut behind us at what you would have thought was plenty far away but surprisingly the motor fouled my line. You would never have thought it would have been that shallow.
