Interesting. Never thought of that but I've also never had a problem staying hooked up since I switched to sickle hooks. Might try it on one hook and compare to an untuned hook. Thanks for the info.

Great tip Thanks
I mostly bass fish with texas rigged plastics and "tune" my hooks as well except in a different way. The way i do it is twist the "J" part of the good to side so that the point and eye do not line up. This way, your pull point in not directly in line with the spot where you have the fish hooked. Traditionally you'd be pulling straight out and tearing a bigger hole eventually make it so the barb can come out. But by twisting it, your "augering" the hook deeper in the fish.
nice tip and I need to tune some jigs
Ranger i do the same thing lol. By opening the gap and a slight offset IMO increases hook up. I tune all my hooks when i get em so i dont have to do it on the water.
Dont get it!! Are you saying you open the hook up and twist so the eye does not line up with the tip of the hook?
Never mind, stupid question. Need to pay more attention.
I use big jigs and sometimes get line twist which causes line to wrap on the rod tip sometimes. I use a small barrel swivel in line about 18'' above my jig. This does not change the way the jig works and stops line twist. Just ask Xring , I fixed his line twist and line wrapping around the fishing rod tip problems.
