If you only gonna get one........................
Make it a good un. Fished all I could last week when the weather was dry. Cold no problem but don’t like cold and wet too. Went Friday with my grandson, we caught a mixed bag of YP, crappie, greenies and pickerel. He got one big YP, 11-3/4 inches. Fished deep water with minnows and silver buddy. Water temp was 43. Final count for the day was 17 fishes.
Woke up Saturday with snow and ice but by 9:00 it was all gone and the wind was still. So away we went. Wind picked up and blew to 20+ MPH before the day was through. And shut the fish down, got skunked on minnows. But pulling cranks gave us a few fishes, including this HAWG yellow perch my friend Vernon caught, one of the biggest we’ve pulled out of here. The fattest anyway. We ended the day with just the one perch and a couple crappie and greenies and pickerels. I’ve been learning that silver buddy and really enjoy spotting fish on the DF and then dropping it down and catching them. Got good ID’ing bass and crappies, they been hitting it the most. Lots of other marks I have not figured out but see them and catch pickerel and YP and sometimes nothing.

Fished the HOT side of Lake Anna on Monday, what a weird place, air temp was in the 30’s and the water was over 70 degrees !!! We caught 36 inferior fish but had a blast anyway. Really strange to be that cold and the water that warm. Poked around a little bit but crappie would not cooperate and hard to get a diehard greenie man to try for crappie when those dang greenies are hitting good. Real pretty water and hope to get back and convince my friend we need to spend some more time looking for crappie.
It was a fun 3 days fishing, all we caught were released, even that HAWG perch. If I had got him I would consider mounting that one. Oh well, I’ll get another chance at him.
Good luck if you get to go.
