I got a report from a buddy of mine this morning and he said was from 630am till 1030 he caught 3 legal crappie in the mix of the grass by coot bay just out of clewiston . Then spent the rest of the day heading twards south bay pounding the pockets and cuts off the rim canal onley got 5 more . his day was done by 6pm he was using green black pepper tube jig 1/32 head and red head black body white feather marabou jig tipped w/ minnow . for me 8 legal crappie all day way too slow but with the moon already at half mast im expecting within the next 2 weeks the bite will drastically improve. I have heard from others here the north end of the lake closer twards kissimmee river inlet twards buckhead ridge and indian prarie are doing pretty good. I am hopeing to get up there myself within the next 2-3 weeks for a fri/sat/part sund trip out of my canoe.
I have a buddy down there thats been fishing the Point of the Reef. Its been hit or miss, mostly miss. The most he got one day was 38, but mostly 5 or 6. I was down there last week of Jan. and it wasnt much better. Water was 70 71 degrees. The ones we caught were on the edge of hydrilla.
Four of us fished there yesterday and today and the report is not good. We caught about a half a dozen specs and about thirty shell cracker. Fished yesterday out of Lakeport and today out of Clewiston. The wind was not our friend but we fished a few choice spots and they did not bite. We didn't talk to anyone that had a good report. Good luck, hope you do better than we did.
Been out a few times at night in the Kissimmee river , bite has been decent on minnows under lights, with a limit of good ones one night, now today it's cloudy, wind out of the north and cool, so the bite will be done for a couple of days until the wind calms down.
thanks for all the info. going this weekend and will let ya'll know results monday.
Where are you gonna launch out at? south bay or clewiston? It is a much longer trip for me i got alot of paddling to do in canoe lol but i know a few areas to try out pending from launch . Let me know hell if its under 15 mph winds i might run out there myself but im really wanting to hit the area up north where they launch for the FLW tournaments and head north twards the lock and if that stinks head into the mouth where the canal opens to the lake.
i'll be going out around slims at south end
im heading out monday with my boys and possibly gonna make the trip twards the north end just past buckhead ridge by the flw boat ramp to do a sailers choice bank fishing trip with crappie jigs . I really want to take my canoe but my 4 r old aint 100% ready for that yet but i know theyll pop a few here n there along with a lil picnic then i can get ready for my serious trip twards the end of the month. Definetly drop me a line let me know how you do. Onley time ive been out of slims was to hit the edge of the grass around the shoals area and beat the bass silly on big white creature baits and pitching small black n blue craws along with Ol Faithful black n blue football jig with black n blue reactions innovations big beaver . i know out of the south bay ramp head north in the rim canal and hit every pocket twards the north on a red head black body white marabou feather tipped with minnow or a watermelon green black pepper jig all close to anygrass or tree and was always good for a dozen keeper specks just slow paddling around, just south of slims where the ol bridge use to be with the tower from the stumps was always good for 4 big slabs. but other than that not to sure of anything north of slims except port myacka by the lock but thats better at dawn thru the nite with lights and minnows. either way good luck slapem silly and let me know how you did i will post my trip also and report it.
I am headed down to Okeetanie on Saturday and Sunday. My father called to get our spot on Monday and said that they are catching limits straight out the mouth of the river in about 8 fow using minners.
I might try finding some Shellcrackers on Sunday, any suggestions on where to find them?
