Whew!

Stopped by a local lake to get a bit of fishing in after work today. I knew there was a threat of T-storms but I figured I would fish till the lightnening started popping. Well, when the storm got as close as I was comfortable with I headed to the ramp. everything was fine when I went to get the truck. But before I could get the trailer in the water the wind hit. I don't know for sure but I am guessing about 60mph. Now I have a small narrow boat so 3 foot rollers worry me. I had a couple waves come over the back of the boat as I was backing off the bank and then with the wind, every wave a busted sprayed me full on in the face. I hit the trailer at about 1/4 throttle and luckily got it loaded ny first attempt. so all turned out well. I only caught 1 nice slab on one of Yellowjackets awesome jigs. I love a good adventure!

And it sounds like an adventure it was! Glad you got off the water without loosing anything.;):D

Wind blowing toward a ramp has sunk many boats.

That same thing happened to me a couple years ago. Had to load in a monster cross wind. Lost my hat and didn't even think twice about looking for it. The wind blew it off my head and it was a goner. Fell out of the boat into the water once trailered. It was a mess. Glad I escaped!

I'm glad everything turned out okay for you Strip. Sounds like the good Lord was watching over you.

For sure! One day after working on our houseboat in sugar loaf Marina went to load up and go home. Little duracraft bass boat with a 55 evinrude. Dropped dad off and waited for him to back in. Aimed into the wind and rode the waves. After what seemed like forever he gets backed in. I turned and headed in.big rollers. Just as I was running on a wave lifted me up and dropped me on a guide-on. Next wave broke over the transom and swamped me. Gas tanks and seats floated out. Could have been worse but was a sphincter puckerer.

I have learned the hard way on Lake Erling when I hear it thunder I head for the boathouse no delay no fooling around just head for the camp and wait it out been on the ocean all my adult life been in hurricanes water spouts north atlantic seas uname it but Lake Erling has scared me several times.

I totaled a hydrasports bass boat out on Dardenelle during a bass tourney about 10 years ago. I never hit a solid object, just waves. I was trying to make it from Piney back to Russellville for the wiegh in. I n the area under the high line wires the waves had to be 5'. I couldn't stay on plane so i was basicaly ideling except when I crested a wave I would gun it enough to keep the bow from spearing the next wave. To say the least the impacts were violent. I lost my trolling motor, my fish finder, and the hull basically cracked apart. One stringer was pushed completely through the hull of the boat and the split was about 6 feet long. The transom cracked out so bad that that it was set back about 2" from where it was supposed to be at the top. My wife was with me and she set in the passengers seat praying the whole time. I moved the boat as close as I could to the bank in case we had to abandon ship. We made it back in one peice and ever since I have owned custom boats. I will never buy another production boat.

Wife and I got caught on the Arkansas river at Toad Suck in a small flat bottom jon in a storm. I did like you Strip. Ran as close to the bank as I could in case we sank. Both the wife and I were terrified.
Almost got caught on Horseshoe the same way, but we got loaded and were pulling out when the storm hit.

I have always heard bad things about that area. I heard it has claimed several boats.
