Hugo report
Thanks to Cricket George for the invite down to the cabin. Crappie Chatt and Frank Burwell came down from Kansas Wed. night. George and the Kansas boys fished Thurs. up in the river and cleaned 19 nice slabs. I got down there Thurs. morning and we fished in the river again from 11 until 430. We cleaned 28, all over 11 inches, with the biggest being a 15 in., 2 lb 4 oz slab. The fish were the healthiest fish I have ever caught. Since none of us needed many more fish we set a 12 inch and 20 fish limit yesterday. We fished in the lake from 930 until 430 and we had our 20 fish limit by noon. We must have thrown back 20 fish that were over 12 inches and that many more that were over 10 inches. The report is, in the river we caught them on the edge of ledges in about 17-20 fow fishing about 14 feet deep. Best baits were char. head with char/pearl washoppa and pink head with electric chicken BG baby shad. In the lake we fished on ledges in 22-25 fow fishing about a foot off the bottom. The best bait was a blk head with a blk/char beavertail.
I always enjoy fishing new water and especially quality water. Thanks again to George for the invite and Chatt and Frank for sharing their boat. That is another story!!!

That's a great report Odie........thanks for sharing and it sounds like you guys had a great time. :)

Good report Odie... sounds like you taught them crappie a lesson. Fished there once myself during the winter, we went up river above the lake. We had a real good time when my father and I went. Plenty of timber in the main lake too huh. Makes a guy wonder where to start. I bet you'll plan more trips down south now that you've fished there.

Odie might be the biggest liar:eek: in Oklahoma. There ain't no crappie in Hugo. Lots of blue cats & sandies but,,,,,very few crappies. Ok George, I said I'd tell them this. And I have. Now ifin ya wanna catch sum bigguns:D and sum even bigger, I'd fur git a bout Grenada:p. Fur real 15in fish weighing over 2lbs and plenty of them. As Odie said smaller baits out fished bigger. They just could't leave those Crappie Pro, Wasshoppahs alone fur very long. My best colors were, yellow pearl, pumpkin seed pearl, and pumpkin chartruse with 1/4 oz orange or red heads. Dead sticking where shad was near on main lake had best bites. River fish same thing but were shallower. There was even shallow bite in less than 10ft but MUCH smaller fish. I want to thank George:) for putting up with all of us as it had to be sum kinda wild sounds:eek: in the sleeping room. Frank even had his ear plugs in. I will raid this lake again very soon. Lake is low and would be a EXCELLENT time to take some pictures of what will be under water. Great time with GREAT friends. Just couldn't of had a better time. <*)}}}>< PS. Odie, I didn't weigh my pig but the filets weighed just under 2lbs.:D ;);)

Yes, the border jumpers made a run for the river leaving black ice on the roads in Kansas. If you have never made a trip with the Chattster you have not lived. The one liners, the chides, the harrassement NEVER stopped. If you did not have a thick skin you were dead meat on this trip. The laughs hardly stopped. The boys had a great time learning a new technigue or two and a new lure to boot. We even found a submerged sailboat on Chatt's side imaging Lowrance unit, It a wonderful trip. We caught drum, sandies, a bunch of blues and some nice crappie.

Sounds like a great time had by all. Been many years since I've fished Hugo, but I bet it still has some super slabs in it.
