Jeffrey Energy Center
I'm new here and new to fishing lakes, always been a creek, river and farm pond guy, but got too old :( to get up and down the banks, figured I'd break something that wouldn't heal! Have Grandkids that I want to introduce to fishing, so bought a fishing boat. Anybody been on the water north of St. Marys by the power plant, if so, what'd you find?
I'm northern SN County, fished Perry with a friend years ago before it silted in up north, but that's about it as far as bigger water fishing goes. Been reading here and appreciate guys sharing your knowledge and experience, should make the transition easier.:D
By the way, I'm not new to crappie, fished watersheds in the flint hills until my partner, who had the keys to the gates passed away, and that's the best crappie fishing in the midwest!!!

Welcome to CDC. I have only fished it once and without much luck...the few fish we caught were on the first lake which was the smaller of the two. We found good concentrations of fish but just a tough bite. Most were just out in front of the little building. We were there in January I believe. Sorry not much help there. Good luck.

Been several years but I've always heard good things about those lakes. Fished from bank on a misrable, cold, windy icy day and caught the heck out of big hybrids. Nonstop action for a couple hours. I checked in at the guard house where I think I had to leave my liscense and I remember the old guard couldn't believe I was gonna try it.

It's been a couple years since I went over there, but I fished the big lake a couple times. Caught lots of little walleyes with only a couple keepers. The fishing was pretty good. I never tried the little lake. Also, I only ever saw one or two other boats out there.
If you're looking for a place to transition from pond fishing to lake fishing, I think JEC would be a good choice. I had good experiences there. This time of year you should call the guard house though. I think one of the lakes is open to waterfowl hunting now, but maybe one is still open to fishing. I can't say for sure. Better call.

There were 70,000 snow geese on the big lake last week....

It is an awesome sight. I was deer hunting in a field next to the one they decided to feed in last week. No deer, but WOW... I was definitely wishing I had my shotgun that afternoon, especially when the canadas kept going over my head at less than 30 yards. The snows were staying a little higher...

Taxi, Love that speck in your profile pic. Sweet bars man!!!

I saw that too! I have never shot a Spec, but I am sure my day is coming. I saw a BIG flock of Canadas near Perry this morning...time to get the layout ready :)

Thanks guys. I shot one with an even cooler belly that day, but this one was banded. It is the only banded bird I've ever shot.
I got that bird when I was waterfowl hunting near Wichita with a good friend that used to really put some honkers down BK (before kids). Four of us got our limit on canadas AND specks that day. It was an unforgettable day of waterfowl hunting.
I hope you guys' seasons are going well.
