How to fight those dishpan hands. Many rookies make the mistake of using those latex gloves from Wal-Mart. They do fight dishpan hands, but have the side effect of drying your hands out and are rough on your cuticles. What I use is the Nitrile gloves. They're more flexible and form fitting plus they don't dry and crack your skin. As a bonus, they can be had in 100 pack cartons for about 10 bucks. That's a full 5 day supply if you married to a woman that likes a spotless kitchen like mine.
Mop akshun....well, this is one of those things where there is no right answer and just like G-3's choice of undergarments after a big boofey lunch, it really depends. I let the floor type lead me. For linoleum, the figure 8 is hard to beat. If hardwood, it's strictly push/pull with the lay of the boards. For tile, I'll push/pull with the grout line, then turn 90 degrees for the opposing groutline, then top it off with a figure 8. When I do this, it really makes the floor shine like new and has a bonus of making the wife almost able to tollerate me.
Rocking an apron. They are really not necessary, but let me tell ya, they really cut down on the stain fighting latter when you're doing laundry. Plus, when you strap it on, the wife really knows you mean business and it really puts a faintly detectable smile on her.
Any more advice, you know where to reach me.
