Indiantown 1/1/06

What a beautiful day for Jan.1. 50 degrees and no wind.
I went to my usual spots and found that the perch are not really in there good yet. There were a couple guys doing real good on the crappie in about 9ft. of water at the first bend past the cut-through. I fished there for awhile and caught 8 or 9, and 1 yellow perch. The fish wanted the bait to be perfectly still and I missed a bunch of bites because I didn't have the "pull" of the boat to set the hook.
Warning! There are several new obstacles in the creek since last winter. If you usually run it fast, you might want to slow down a little until you get to the river.

Where were they catching the crappie? First bend on the left near the mouth of the creek?

Go down 168 to Sligo and rt 34. Turn right on 34 and go 3 -3½ miles and turn left on Indian Town Rd. In about 2 mi you will cross 158, go another 2 mi or so and you will come to a bridge. The ramp is right there at the bridge. Not much to it and no pier but plenty of water. Go downstream (not under the bridge) to the mouth. 3 creeks (Indian Town, Frog, and East Canal) come together there and form North River. Keep going down stream and you will come to a large island, you will see the cut thru on your left (good for crappie some times). Anyway right before the cut thru is a good place to catch Raccoon Perch (7-8 ft of water). Hope that helps.

Bill, they were catching them at the first right bend past the cut through at the island.

Thanks Bill that did help a bit. Will my 17' fit? I hope to get down there in the next couple weeks. It's been a while since I had a mess of perch.

No problem. I used to have a 17' center console I put in there.

:p Bill, We use to fish down there quite a bit 4 to 5 years ago. We use to keep going pass the bridge a few more miles, make a left turn on a road which dead headed at a dirt ramp. There was an entrance into a Camp Ground on the right of the ramp.:rolleyes: It became a problem leaving your vhicle there. Cut tires, stolen tires, broken windshields, ect.. We then moved up to the Public ramp near Coinjock. Would have to come back down the Inter-Coastal way thru Coinjock and that took sometime. How is the security at the bridge where you launch from:confused:

I had a tire slashed 4 or 5 years ago but no problems since. I know the ramp you are talking about. It seems like that was a mean creek to get out of.

:eek: We were usually in a 17' Alum, Tracker type boat with a large motor and had no problems. Just had to take it slow.:( When I got my Nitro I did put in there once or twice with no problem (it's 17') but the constant worry about what you were going to find when you got back to the ramp made the fishing trip unpleasureable, if you know what I mean.:mad:
