I feel like OPEC has shoved an oil pipe up my butt and is drilling me. This is nothing but greed, which the big oil companies are big players. Why do we give these greedy pinheads tax breaks and incentives? Your opinion?

OPEC? I heard on the news that our major oil companies are reporting huge profits. If it was OPEC id think the profit margin across the board four oil companies would be fairly constant, no matter what OPEC charged for oil. Its our own greedy people thats sticking it to us in a huge way.
OPEC sure is sticking it to us---but when they put gasoline on the board of trade in 1983 ,we are seeing very few traders controling the price and lining their pockets with unheard profitsQuote:

Talk about killing the incentive to buy America's gas guzzling, profit raising SUV market. Look at what is happening to GM right now. It is surely related. Good job guys!
My attempt to fight this is to just put $5 in at a time into my car. It requires way more stops at the pumps, but I will continue to do this until prices get realistic again. If everyone did the same thing, the gas consumption and demand will appear to be taking a significant nose dive to the thieves controlling oil prices.
I am done ranting, but I sure wish we were ALL done being raped by the oil barrons!

Don't expect any help from the White House, Bush money is tied to petroleum.
Will it affect the economy? How can it not change the way people drive?
How about the families that live from paycheck to paycheck just barely making ends meet?
Since Saudi Arabia harbors terrorist, maybe we should invade them and get the oil for ourselves. :D
Am I unhappy with fuel prices? You bet your sweet a**!!
HAVE A NICE DAY :D
I'm a little confused what voting would have to do with it, though I'm
all for voting, big business controls what really goes on, our foreign policy
etc. Do some of you really think gas would drop if the Democrats were in
power? I'm not saying it would or wouln't, I'm really asking. I'm just
a pessimist, and think we're screwed on several fronts with either party.
My personal feelings, we should strip the Federal govt. of just about all
power, save keeping up the military. Then, if there are problems, I could
get in the truck and just drive to the state capitol, along with eveyone
else, and get in someone's face if need be. I am afraid that the rural
folks like myself are in for nothing but hard times to come, with all policy
determined by someone in New York City or California.
I hate the prices also but this is what kills me.....
The price of a barrel of oil went up Wedn, by Friday the price at the pump went up. There is no way they can bring oil in the US, refine it, and deliver it to the pump in 2 days. But by doing this way they can start making more money sooner.
Price Gouging!!I agree with gmpartsman, just invade the damn country and make it a U.S. territory!!Bet the prices would come down then, but only if we control Bush and his cronnies!
since this thread has about as much to do with fishing as the price of rice in china, maybe a move to the off topics forum would be appropriate...... whaddya say moderator?
And you can bet your sweet bibby that when it goes down, it will take a lot more than 2 days to be reflected at the pumps. Their excuse is, well we have all this expensive oil in the tanks. I guess they are always dry just when the price of oil goes up. What a crock!!Quote:

However, I was thinking that I really have no right to whine about the price of gas, being that I was driving 80 miles an hour from my moms house yeaterday. Maybe Bush could do what Carter did back in the 70's and make the speed limit 55 MPH.
Now if ya don't think the price of gas has something to do with fishing, then you must fish out of a canoe or off the bank. We all know how gas and oil expenses impact our fishing, thus this is a good topic for fishermen with boats that use GAS and OIL from OPEC.
What concerns me the most is China's and other developing asian countries demand for oil. They are a big buyer of oil and price is no concern to them when they have a labor force working for peanuts. The US gave China favorite trading status back in the mid 90's, and look at what has happened. Manufacturing jobs are being lost in the US to China, and as China builds it's manufacturing capabilities the demand for fuel will increase even more. Maybe the oil companies are hosing us now, but the US worker is gettin hosed big time by our own govt who gave China favorite trading status. Why the heck do they deserve that when it's a communist country? How is the American worker or business supposed to be able to compete with that?
Yes, Shellback, I'm worried about all things China too. I guess we will
never see anything like WWII again, sure hope not anyway, but what I
mean is that any major conflicts will probably be high tech, if not nuclear.
So we may never see manufacturing called on to win the war again -
sure the heck hope not, because we are soon to be without any, the
way it is leaving the country. I feel like China is aiming directly at hurting
us, and they are willing to do anything to their own people to make it happen.
They won't have to fire a shot, because they will have already defeated us economically.Quote:

I voted for those two thugs and would do it again if I had to pick between the same two. I am not happy with gas prices, as a matter of fact I am mad as H3!!, but do you really believe gas would be cheaper with Mr Heinz I mean Kerry.Quote:

Wow I just got a thought of a fantastic ticket for 2008. Hillery Clinton for President and T. Heinz-Kerry for Vice President. The 2 most powerful women in America, and the 2 most feared women by the republican party. Can't be all bad now can it.Quote:

I thought this was a thread about OPEC and oil? Not bashing others on how they vote.
We are all controled by the big business intrest and all the crooks sitting in Washington. The way things are going just a matter of time before there will no longer be a middle class, just the very rich and the very poor.
like i said, the off topic forum fits this thread perfect. just keep reading the threads. i don't see much about fishing but i do see alot of political commentary and the usual bush bashing rhetoric that doesn't belong on a fishing board but on the off topic forum. that is why ed set up the off topic forum. :DQuote:

howdy all; back to the price of oil, seems that our politicans have seen fit to vote to NOT open the oil site in the Arctic. now, let me say that it would not effect the amount of oil that would be brought to the shores of the Good ol' U.S.of A. to high of a sulpher content. just like the coal here in Ohio. it all goes overseas where the standard isn't as high. the oil the comes to Americia comes from Venesula. yea, they belong to opec. the oil from Iraqc should not even be counted into the equation as thier's was not on the market since gulf war I, until we dropped the embargo, post fall of bagdad. what shellback said about asia equates to is that our oil companies are getting rich on the north slope oil from alaska. what TAE73 said about the "instant" price jumps i agree with. i have seen the tank truck at the station on wed. and the price go up the net day. ok they may have had to pay more than the last load. but, 2 days later we here of a price spike in the cost per barrel, next day a 14 cent increase for the gas that's still in the ground, thought there was a law about re-priceing retail goods. guess i was mistaken. any way it normaly takes about 2 months for the oil to come from Venes. to get refined and to the pumps. so,.........
that's my 2 cents worth (in 1980 penneys, i here that they are worth more LOL.) tarfu
democrat and republican ain't got nothing to do with it - and the price of oil and gas is a political issue - and this the offf topic board - the problem in my opinions is - ain' it ain't just bashing Bush - it is true we got a man in the white house that got all his money from the oil business - and as for the vice -president if Martha Stewart deserved to go to jail over her stupid actions Dick Cheney should get a life sentence - we got to pull together and elect people that it makes a difference to them and takes stuff away from them when the price of oil rises rather than their families get richer when the prices rise - oh yeah Heinz Ketchup will be more expensive too because of the price of trucking it to the store
they are all basically multi millionaires and some even billionaires that could care less about the average schmuck. when you get money, the next thing you want is power. that is why all these people push and pull and fight and jockey for position to run for the white house. you really think clinton, kerry, heinz, gore, edwards, bush, reagan, carte r,ford,nixon,kennedy,etc...etc...give half a horse turd about you and me? they want the power and the prestige that being president gives you. for them, there is no other higher plateau after they have already gotten the money. oil, ketchup, gang money, peanuts, acting, crooked real estate transactions, class action lawsuits,inheritance,manufacturing........don't matter where you got the money. fact is,you got the money the rest is bullplop and power! :D
Ya know, I am neither Democrat or Republican. I'm not Communist, or Green Party either. I am an American, which used to mean I lived in the land of the free. Where the government was ran by the people, for the people. I can point fingers back and forth at each and every one of the parties, and list many of the wrongs they have done in the past. It still will never change anything. What about this country's future? I know my vote doesn't say much, but then again...I can't remember the last time somebody ran who wasn't a completely formed bi-product from either party hoopla and/or special interest sectors. The bottom line is, our great nation is in trouble folks. Our government's infastructure is so F'd up, it's corruption even goes all the way down to the local parking meter attendants. I wish I had the answers, and I wish there was a canidate again who I could believe in and trust to vote for, instead of choosing the lesser of the two evils. One who would and could straighten out this country which I call home. We can spend billions on shooting crap at the sun, but we can't feed our homeless and care for our senior citizens who built this country? We can tax and ticket a consumer to death, but we can't provide a road worthy of driving on? We can send our youths over seas to die, but we ignore the benefits that were promised our Veterans? $2.55 a gallon for gas... it hurts, and it really sucks. That all said, I wish that everyone's hardships are met with solutions. I am gonna go back to enjoying some fishing now. Gonna try to get some in before my government declares fish to be the property of the USA, and levy usage fees per bite!
Full baskets and gas tanks to all, and thank you to the Vets who gave me the freedom to say this without being shot!

PS. One other thing.. The King of Rock and Roll died this day August 16th, 1977. Rest in peace Elvis.
Come on Tim,,,,,Tell us how you really feel :D As some of us who's parents grew-up at the end of the depression, tell us, "it's not that bad"!!! There is still enough food at the stores to buy or anything else we wish to buy. I know how it was in the early 70's when the lines at gas stations were a mile long just to get 10gal. Then go to another line to get 10 more. We have created this mess with wars(that we can't win) and SUV's and that stuff that Tim mention. Look out,,,the auto industry is going to drop them as fast as the 'muscle cars' dissappeared in the 70's. If I had one, it would be "FOR SALE
" today. I had a '70 GTX, then, with a gas guzzling 440 cu.in. , 375hp tire smoker. Loved it but, only got 8mpg. I sold it for almost nothing!!! Bought a VEGA   Another mistake. Both cars are now collectors worth thousands. Anyway,,,just some venting as the price of fuel keeps climbing but,,,,,,I can still filler-up when at the pump,,,if I have enough $$$$ <*)}}}><
Het Chatt, that wasn't me...it was Dennis Filler, or Rush Blowhard, or Ross Period, or Ralph Radar, or Jay Aeno... but I saved a bunch on my car insurance by switching to Geicco! Hehe!
The voices in my head keep telling me I've snapped, and the five of us are starting to agree!

I read all these posts and they all have the same tune. FED UP! But what are we going to do about it? Wait until the next election when fuel will be $5.00 a gal.? Or should we start raising h*ll now with our so called elected officials? If enough people start complaining maybe by election time the officials will take notice.
We send billions of $ overseas to try and buy other countries friendship and most of them still hate us. Yet we can't take care of our seniors (as said in an earlier post), we still have homeless people, we still have people that can't afford decent medical coverage an we still have people go hungry.
I do not feel that my tax dollars are used wisely. I want it to stay in the US and do some good.
I guess that enough ranting for today.
YA'LL HAVE A NICE DAY :D
Well, after thinking this over last night, I want to say a couple of things -
first, to Canepole, sorry to have contributed to getting this off of your
original topic. Second, I would rather be friends and enjoy the fishing
talk than argue with someone, even if we are polar opposites in our
ideology. So, I will try very hard not to post anything political again.
Like I did say, I really don't trust or like ANY of them, so it is silly of me to
get involved in discussing their merits or lack of. As for the fuel prices,
when it gets too high to go fishing, maybe I can move closer to the lake
and get a rowboat - too much stuff to worry about now already without
taking on more. Good day, and good fishing to all. Jeff
I asked for opinions and you stated yours. We still have freedom of speech here. We, afterall, are Americans. Controversy is good. It stirs the emotions and the imagination of us all. Hell, I will argue with the Devil, but I will respect his/her right to express his/her point of view.
Well, just to add that I believe in "fair market value". That is what the Oil Gods base prices around. Now, I just can't figure what is fair about the market.
I don't know much but here goes. Opec is and will continue to choke the world economy. We being the largest user, driving the largest vehicles, don,t really have OPEC loosing sleep over our problems. The oil companys are making their share and I still dont see everyone boycotting the nickel a gallon more guy to drive his profit back down a nickel. NO . I see nothing . It seem like a average day.China, and India are now large crude buyers. Their economies are going strong and the people now want cars. The tree huggers bitch every time some company wants to drill a hole, we must see OPEC.I am preparing for 3.00 a gallon. The wife WILL make less trips, and Will do all the running on one day.The independant truckers are the first to feel the big squeeze.IT will trinkle down to every item costing more.NOW we have Iraq, the 4th largest oil reserve in the world, it will slip through our fingers because our dumb ass Political Parties can,t come to a common theme of put your countries needs first and win this thing. I would have to think that we would have the ability as a unified effort,to get Iraqs oil production up to the point of filling the demand that SAUDI refuses to increase to. NO, that would make this war a Unified effort at this point and we can,t have that.If ANWAR has fuel reserves , I say reindeer burgers for everyone. When gas hit 2.00 a gallon, the old Chevy moved on for a V6 that got 20mpg. A LIFE TRUTH IS PEOPLE DON' T CHANGE, YOU JUST GET USED TO IT. I really would like to see 2.00 a gallon fuel , but again people keep buying it. 15.00 to fill up a 5 gal boat tank!....and I too just bought it. fish on.
The problem with sticking together to get the price of gas down is, The rich man is not going to quit buying cause he can afford it. The poor man is not going to quit cause he can't afford not to buy it in order to get to work for his weekly pay check.
When it get's to $ 3.00 a gal here. I'm going to buy a wagon & two mules,LOL, either that or making my own moonshine to run off of.
