anybody try lake hefner lately
yesterday and got nothing. Lots of guys were catfishing and the ODWC site had a pic of a large channel cat caught a couple of days ago. Let me know if you find any.
Welcome to crappie.com sfilippo2!
well it is thursday and just got the chance to read the board again i did fish for awhile yesterday caught a few small crappie in the docks. i talked to mike the singing fisherman for a minute he said the same for him .what i caught was on bottom and of course were 6"-8" water was mostly 48-50 degree maybe if the weather gets a little better the larger ones will move on in see ya sam
Filippo, do you own the pawnshop on 39th street??
yes hot rod ido and dcamccl i was catching 6"- 8" fish on bottom 10' to 11' east side of lake
I fish at the Dam today with my dad for over 2hrs, we did not get a single bite.
I switch to several different colors and even move to different points along the dam, not a bite.
I guess I have to go to Canton lake sometime and fish there instead.
I never seen Hefner this bad, and I have been fishing Hefner year after year.
I hope my report help those who are out there.
for those who fish hefner...just look up and watch those on bikes and walking enjoying all the trails that we have bought them with the money we pay for permits....thats why fishing stinks...
Filippo, my dad and I met you a couple of times last year around the dock we were in the white and black boat our last name is Coffey. I haven't had a chance to get back out there this year and try it on hefner. Im sure I will see ya soon and good luck.
I Thought I Was The Only One Who Noticed The Permit Thing For Fishing And Not For Others . But Now I Turned 62 I Get The Freeby So You Will Have To Be The Only One Too Notice . And I Fished Out Of My Boat In The Docks Sunday Nothing Over 6 Inch And Very Few Of Them Still Early .
Fished the east docks at hefner yesterday, caught five fish and the wind was a killer, a couple of times the entire front of my boat tried to nosedive in the waves, I figured the good lord could have blessed me with a nice mess of crappie but didn't happen. Not a good report but may save someone some time and money. I didn't try any shallow water under 10 ft which was probably a mistake from the sound of things happening on eufaula.
good info but i can't go to the big e for another week but hope to go to hefner this weekend if the wind will let me thanks
hey sfilippo....its strange but hefner is the last lake of all the lakes i fish to spawn????...try the walleye....hear they are hitting pretty good
The water temp on the dam and on the tip of Lighthouse Point is 56 degs. The walleye males are hitting at night. The sandies LMB and SMB are hitting too. 2 Channels and blues over 15# have been caught inthe last 2 weeks too. Water is clear.
How do you fish Hefner with a south wind like we have today ?
I thought about takin the boat up there today, but all that would be fishable would be the south side of the lake.
If there's any lake in the OKC area that is most affected by wind , then its Hefner.
hotrod i was wondering where you guys have been i guess we are just too early and the wind hasn't helped so i just went mushroom hunting to day that was better than fishing in the wind see ya out there
George is right the walleyes are biting at night on the dam. I have caught eyes the last 5 nights. Biggest has been 23" and all have been males.
The so called "spawn" is virtually over at Hefner for the walleye. The walleye do not get off a very productive spawn on Hefner because the wind and waves are not stout enough to provide good aeration for the eggs. The walleye that are stocked in Hefner are harvested from Canton and raised at the Byron Fish Hatchery. The last batch of nets will be removed from Canton dam probably on Saturday.
wait acouple of weeks then go trollin or drifting thats my bag
Walleye were still biting as of sunday evening. I got a 6lb 24 inch eye on the dam about 9pm on sunday. Has anyone been out for crappie at Hefner in the last week or so. I am thinking about trying the late afternoon on tuesday or wednesday.
I am going to check water temp today
What are you fishing with i been trying for two months with jigs and crankbaits and still no walleye
Sparky, I have been using jigs with 3"grubs and shallow diving cranks right in the rocks. I have been twice this week befor the rain and they have moved off the rocks. Will post if I get any but have switched focus to crappie there and will be trying some other places as well. Good luck
fished hefner today and only caught five. they were in 3-6 feet of water. Two of them hit a pink and black jig and the other three came on minnows. Water is clear and is 62-63 degrees. All fish were males and 4 of them were around 10 inches.
LLD - I assume you are talking about crappie????
yes cricket...crappie....seems like hefner is always the last lake to spawn and when it does it is fast...temps are pretty warm..but it seems that there are just not that many crappie left in hefner anymore
crappie fishing at hefner has been hit and miss over the last week....fished before the storms and caught over thirty from the bank ...only one was ten inches....fished after the norman storm and caught 5....fished from the boat two days ago and caught about 25...all dinks...came across a few largemouth bass on the banks and caught three around two pounds.....i did hear some guys talking that they had caught around thirty on monday from the dock...not sure on what or how big.
Fished hefner on tuesday and my brother and I caught several crappie and ended up with 21 skinners over 10". Caught most fish on a garland baby shad in the red and chartruse with silver sparkles and the lindy tube with black body and pink and yellow tail, we fished from a boat and hit the banks fishing the jig about 2 or 3' under a cork with a 1/16 oz jighead. We caught well over 100 fish and most were taken around stars and stripes and the resturants. We tried drifting for walleye with nightcrawlers and white and chartruse 3" grubs and did not hit a single fish... We got 5 times as many bites tipping the jigs with chartruse crappie candy.
I got to go out wednesday befor the storms and got 5 eyes in 2 hours. Only one keeper but hey, still alot of fun.
DC, what side of the lake were you fishin and how, and what, and when..
read the paper today and it pretty much said all fishing at Hefner is excellent.....anyone been going there and can confirm that?
I read the same thing on the wildlife department says excellent i went thursday and seen fish jumping all over the place but caught nothing so i cant say its excellent
Ur right they wont put any fish in the lake ! One of the fishing docks was fixed and relocated but the south dock still has no working lights .
Went out last night and caught six keepers in about an hour from the bank. Most were in about 10 fow and used white 2" grub.
what did u catch?
Sorry, got crappie. Haven't seen any of those pesky "eyes" yet but will keep catching crappie as long as I can
just got in from fishing off the hefner dam today....I was fishing in 20 feet of water with jigs and minnows..caught all but two on jigs....Not that I slayed them but pretty good for hefner....I caught 24... four of them were 12 inches....and all but two of the rest were ten inches.....tossed them all back so they will be waiting till next time!...water temp was 68 off dam and 66 going across the lake
