I have a new Eagle 480 fishfinder and trying to mount it to my trolling motor. Do I need to run power wire all the way back to Starting battery ... or can I simply tie into the trolling motor wiring (which runs to 2 x 12 v batteries - 24 volts)???? Is the voltage too much for the Eagle? Will it burn it up or not?

Run your wire down the opposite side of the boat from the trolling motor wires (if possible) to avoid interference also.
to avoid TWENTY-FOUR volts, too. Check w/ the manufacturer but I'd say it was made for 12v and you just can't put 24v on it and expect it to survive.Quote:

You will fry your electronics, probably as soon as you turn it on !! :( ... at the very least, you'll immediately blow the in-line fuse. That's why they're on there, to stop any possibility of currents higher than 12V to reach the depth finder. ALWAYS have one installed on your electronics wiring !! They're not fool proof protection, but they are the next best thing.Quote:

The answer is yes....and no. You can wire up a 12 volt unit as long as you connect it to the + and - posts of the #1 battery, there will be 12 volts there. Connect to the + and - of your #2 battery and it will fry your unit. But the best thing to do is what has been mentioned already. It's not good to hook electronics up on the same battery as the trolling motor to avoid interference.
You can, but you need to run back to the batteries and tap into only one battery, not the pair, so you get 12V. If you have a speed coil motor (5 speeds), it will work, but if you have a variable speed motor you'll have interference whenever you run the TM.Quote:
