Been tying a few jigs. Pretty comfortable with the process but I keep ending up with flat sided jigs. Not all of them but I notice a few of them look like they have had the bodies pinched in some vicegrips, not nice and round like the ones I have bought in the past. What is making that happen?
Might just have to find me a little niche market and start selling them:D

Sounds to me like you are getting your tail material all bunched up on one side of the hook. After you get your thread started and begin to tie in your tail material you need to make sure that it is even all around or at least on both sides of the hook when you wrap it in. Make sure it looks pretty uniform and round before you wrap your body material. The thicker and fuller your body material is - the more it will hide. If you use a chenille it will usually make your body look nice and round. Hope this helps you some!

are you able to see the other side when tying?Do you use a rotary vice? that could help"!it did for me brother":D
I gpt so fed up w/ the flat sides",and having to stand up and over"ans eyeball this and that" I said" He!! w/ it I'm getting an rotary vice",and let jjj talk me into buying a Renzetti rotary cam vice well worth the $$$ that i bought 2"1 w/ the nut locking screws"the other w/ cam locking jaws,I love them both,and"So dose my 10 yr.old daughter:D

I am tying the tail material on the top of the hook. Have not been stripping the fuzzy stuff off of the chenille and tying it on on top of the hook also. Using a #6 hook (I think). Chenille is all "med" but it is mainly 1 or 2 colors that I notice this on when tying so it could be the chenille is causing the problem.
I have been tying the chenille on with the working end at the bend of the hook, wrap forward one layer and tie off at the head end.
I got the el cheapo vise, no funds for rotary vice but I don't think it is the vice causing my problem. Chenille is uniform but when you look at the jig it looks flat on the sides.

I do this to but its because I pinch the heck out of the chenille when wrapping so i can get it really tight so it dont move after i tie it off. Its a bad habit of mine but hey the fish dont care.
