does any one use the Lee Pro 4-20, Lead Melter and if so how do u like it?
man im just full of questions tonight lol :) bet u cant guess what web site ive been playing on tonight lol :) :D
what is a Reverse Barb and what is it used for??
Use candle wax - bee's wax works also. A little pea size ball is all you need and be careful when you add it to hot wax, will burst in a flame. The cleaner the lead the less you have to flux.
I use a 4-20 for saltwater jigs and a IV for small stuff.
A reverse barb is the bait (plastic) holder on the bottom of the jig shank - facing away from the hook tip. Its another way to secure your lure to a jig - it allows a little more clearance at the hook gap.
I use Oatey No.95 lead free tinning flux in the green and white 1.7oz. can.Gray in color rather then clear ,or amber.Seems to work the best for me w/spoons and ice jigs;)
Do you mean barb at the point end of a hook like they use in European countries? The barb on the hook is actually positioned on the top of the the hook fairing backwards rather than underneath the point.
I'll dig it up,and send a pic of this European fishing hook a friend sent me from Spain. It is actually on a 1/4oz.jig.:D
Like Led said just a piece of wax, I use some scraps of my wife's scented candles and man it sure does keep the garage smelling good when it goes up. Besides it's free and allows you to spend your money on more hooks
I use the Pro Melter IV, depending on what you're going to cast should determine which size you get. I have two of the fours and with just one running is enough for a single caster. If your gonna go pro and sell then MAYBE the 4-20

crappie josh,
Like Ledhed said, you can use candle wax or beeswax. I like bees wax, because I buy it in pellets, and in my 3 Lee IV pots I put in 5 pellets every 2 hours, to keep the lead clean and the impurities from forming back. A word of caution, what you want to do is light the smoke. What this means is as soon as you put the pellets in, have a match ready and throw it in the pot. What this will do is flame up(so don't stick your face in there to see what's going on) and as the flame is burning, mix your lead slowly with a spoon. You willl then see more debris float to the top. Please be very careful when you do this. I don't want you to get burned. If you don't understand, PM me and I will explain it better. The fluxing of the lead will bring out the impurities, and you will get better pours guaranteed.
the canning wax u can buy at the store does that work as well ?
I never knew there was such a thing. If it is actually wax then I say yes, if it is something else than no. I would try a small piece about the size of a pea, and slowly put it in the lead pot. It should only smoke, then while it smokes quickly throw in a match, to see if the smoke disappears, and you get a flame. If you are not sure, then don't put it in. This is a warning, do not get any water in that pot or it will explode causing severe burns.
The canning wax refered to is Pure parafine (sp) wax. It works beautifully as a flux. Illinoisgiller
