Who does some airbrushing??
Can I mix up powder coat paint with thinner and use a airbrush to paint my blades. Thinking about getting one. After heating up 1500 with a heat gun and them dipping them in the powder paint one at a time:eek:,,,I figure there has to be a better way
1500...... There are two ways to speed it up. The first would be get an electrostatic gun, build a small paint booth and all that jazz, would be rather expensive.
The other way is to find nice sized fluid bed so you can heat 100-500 blades at the same time, take them out of the oven and dip them all at once.

If you are talking about doing detail stuff on them, I don't know of an easier way to do it. Maybe the powder paint water stuff but I don't know if that will work in an air brush.
High temp tape might work but it would be a lot of work cutting out all the shapes unless you could find them pre cut.
Still thinking airbrushing would be the fastest way. Hang them on a rod and spray away
Do not attempt to thin powder paint and use it in an airbrush, two totally different paints I think and you'll ruin the airbrush, besides even if you could I wouldn't know where to begin to tell you how far to thin it out and with what to use to thin it. I used to work as a powder painter for a fork truck company... if you had a PP company in your area maybe talk to them, and they may just charge ya a small fee to run your line, might be worth a shot if you have that kind of quantity... otherwise building a powder paint system is too cost intrusive. might look into a fluid bed like fish_4_all mentioned.
I have a fluid bed. I use it for jig heads. My cups are 3 in PVC. But to build a bigger one and some kind of rack to hold all the hooks might be a real pain. Right now I have one of those jig clamps from CS Coatings. That works great. Used to hang them on a oven rack but when you heat them up the solder will flow down and cover the eye and the hook will turn and not be straight. So they have to stand almost straight up or at least at a angle so the solder and the paint will drip the other way towards the hook. To heat them all up in the oven and then hold that rack upside down to dip the spoons,,,the fluid bed would have to be long 22 inches long and a 1 in wide. Thats why it would be easier to shoot them with a airbrush. Two sweeps and they would be painted
Laser you think about using a different type of paint that can be air brushed on instead of the PP your using? For the only kind that I have heard that you can use through an airbrush is that water base that was posted on here about a month or so ago cannot recall who started that post but if you do a search should be easy to find.
Here is another option you can go with believe it runs about $60-$65 for the kit.
Powder Spray Gun
Our all new Powder Spray Gun (PSG) now allows you to paint all those formerly hard to dip items such as blades, spoons, spinners or anything else metal, without the need for expensive electrostatic spraying equipment or spray booths. Spoons can be painted without “wrap-around” and Pro-Flake Glitter colors can be added with beautifully even coverage. Our PSG resembles an airbrush with a 4 oz. jar attached and comes complete with gun, air hose and 4 interchangeable jars and lids. Since the PSG requires very little air (5–8 psi at 1 cfm), even the smallest compressors will operate it.
Instructions for Use
Warm the part to be painted in a preheated oven at 350–400° F for approximately 5 minutes. A small propane torch can also be used by holding the part with a needle nose pliers or by hanging on a fine wire and moving back and forth over the flame for a few seconds. Immediately after heating, hold or hang part sideways to allow spraying in a horizontal direction. Hold gun tip 4–6 inches from metal surface and spray in a sweeping motion.
The powder will adhere immediately and flow into a smooth finish. If metal has cooled to the point where the powder does not flow out completely, return piece to oven or wave the back side of piece over a torch flame until desired effect is achieved. More paint can be added as necessary. For maximum durability, cure painted part by hanging it in an oven for 15 minutes at 350° F.
Unused powder can be stored in covered jars. To change colors, simply blow out plastic tube and attach a new jar. Fill jars only half full for best results. To eliminate dust, work in front of an open cardboard box lying on one side with a vacuum hose inserted into a hole cut in the bottom side. The airflow created by the vacuum will keep powder in the box.
