Ouachita Report 10 May 2009

The water was nearing 12' higher than normal but I went anyway.

Caught two crappie--none in the shallows. The two I caught were caught at a whoppin' 17' feet just over a huge brush pile.

The smaller one was 11 inches and the big 'un was right at 16 inches...white crappie, the biggest still full o' eggs.

Might go Wednesday but don't hold out much hope for good numbers, but maybe a big one or three.

Twin Creeks is closed and will remain so for weeks. Denby is still accessible but one must be careful. <><

I received a report that a cable broke that raised the gate to release water at the dam, and it may be a month before they can repair it. If this is accurate, the level will be much higher.

Thanks for the report AJ...glad the high water hasen't kept you away.

...Hamilton is full to the brim right now and they couldn't release any significant water right now if they wanted to. It's always better to flood trees (Ouachita) than houses (Hamilton).

Thanks for the encouragement. The water yesterday was still rising but under 13' high. In addition to Twin Creeks, Crystal is now closed.

I had trouble coming out of the water yesterday at Denby. I had to wade half-knee-deep water for 8 feet before I could get to the bank to back the truck down.

I have decided to give it a two-week rest and get some maintenance done around the house and on the boat. I need a new prop for the F90 and I just need to give it a good cleaning overall.

I have lots ot chainsaw work to get caught up on and maybe by 1 June the water will be fishable. I'm tired of 2-fish days.
