Whats the key to catching crappie during the summer months. The spawn is over in a private lake I fish, and was wondering what needs to be done to catch big slabs. It is about 22 feet deep at the deepest part. Also, anyone fishing the Bobcats crappie classic on the 15th and 16th? Today is the last day to be on the water for a while, so good luck.

I don't think nearly as many big slabs are caught during summer compared to fall and spring. Does this private lake have any bridges crossing it? If so, like IBNFSHN says, that's a good spot to try. Otherwise, I think you just have to look to find structure in deeper water. Crappie can be caught 10' to 20' deep in the summer.
As far as the deep brush in 10-20 feet of water... do these same places hold the fish in the fall and winter too or do the crappie move out to deeper brush??? I have never fished deep lakes in the fall and winter but in the few local lakes that are shallow (maximum 25') I have found that the crappie tend to hold on the same deep brush piles summer, fall, and winter.Quote:
