Nottoway 5-4-09

I went out for a few hours before the rain ran me off. I picked up a few but the weather had the bite slowed I think.

I caught 2 crappie at 11in and 5 big gills. I think that the white perch run is almost over I only caught 1. I also picked up a green carp and a couple of yellow perch.

The gills, perch and crappie were on the lilly edges that had sharp dropoffs into 12+ water. Basically channel edges with lilly flats. the carp was the only thing caught on timber.

So the weather must have played a big part in changing the pattern.

with overcast skies might should have fished a little shallower...fronts will give em lockjaw though

I tried fishing shallow when I first got there thinking the same thing but after 45 min of nothing but small gills nibbling. Moved out of the first ledge and got the bigger gills.

Moved to the deeper areas where I got the crappie on the last few trips nothing. SO I moved back to the first ledge and started catching them again unitl the thunder and I was outta there.

Atleast ya caught a few. I found a lot of the same at Leesville Lake Sunday... the water temp. had dropped a few degrees and the fish had moved out to deeper water. The crappie weren't biting very good but the white perch were! :D:D

yep a typical pattern for may post spawn crappie prespawn gills...time to put out 3 to 5 slip bobbers at various depths and just bump around the edges of drop offs, ledges , and across points .....this slow presentation usually will work ;)

nothing beats wetting a line.
