How to mount a TM
Ok. I had a problem with a used TM and now i want to put my old one back on. The real problem was that I paid the mechanic to put my TM on. They did a good job mounting the TM but the holes dont match my old TM.
My boat is older and I am the third owner so it has quite a few holes already. It is an aluminum bass boat (alumaweld). The last owner mounted the TM with drywall hollow wall screws which the mechanic has removed. I think the mechanic used rivit-nuts to mount the newer TM for me. I would like to do this the right way...any advice/guidance you could give would be great.
Thanks,

Mount Troll Motor
Not sure what you have for a deck to mount. How thick is the deck and can you reach under it to install nuts.
but academy sells some mounting things that look like a big rubber T
the screws go through the center of the T and the T has a brass nut built inside the bottom of it. as you tighten the screw the bottom of the rubber T expands out to tighten in the hole of the boat deck.
They use these a lot in bass boats and they work real well .
Hope this helps.
I will try to find a link.
They are called troll motor isolator bolts.

Your best bet is to get access to the underside of the mounting surface. Use a backing plate and stainless bolts with nylocks and big fender washers. Even if you have to cut access. Other methods will work, but are much weaker and will fail eventually. Stinks about the holes, but cover them and keep going.
