Never fished there, but would be happy to take an afternoon & explore it with you. Can you get a boat trailer in there, or would we need to hand launch my 12-footer?
they got a ramp cork..........
Any idea whether this is a real lake, or just a 12" deep mosquito-breeder put there as a backdrop to market expensive homes?
yeah its real you can google it and it old as well not so much real nice homes looks like older cottage style retreats that became a modern subdivision
LOL Slab, I completely did not see this thread when I posted about Woodhaven Shores.
Small world, what a coincidence that we both post about this small private lake at the same time lol
I just got access. I think you are supposed to have a home owners association sticker on your car to be able to launch/fish there. I have one that a home owner/friend of mine gave me.
I'll probably fish it tomorrow afternoon in my 12 footer.
Wow!! You two have just become my best friends. I grew up in and learned to fish in Woodahaven. I fell out of touch with the folks I used to know that lived there and haven't fished it in about 7 years. I mostly bass fished in those days so I cant tell ya much about the crappie population. The end of the lake by the Dam is about 22 feet at its deepest and the other two arms range from 10 to 3 feet deep. The ramp at Woodhaven beach is great for launching small jons but it is a short ramp with a steep drop (unless they fixed it) so 4x4 may be required to get a bigger boat in. I saw several guys get stuck with 2wd trucks when I was a kid. I used to put my 16 foot boat in there with no problems but I have not tried my 17 foot tracker. The bluegill population was excellent there when I was a kid. If ya want some fast action during the early bluegill spawn get ya a bucket of crickets and go to the spillway. That creek the lake feeds into used to be loaded with brim. Gimme a call if you guys find yourself with an empty seat. 433-8290
Will do man.
I didn't go today, I played soccer this morning and didn't really fancy the idea of going back out in the heat. I'll probably go after work sometime this week. I owe the guy who got me the passes a few trips first though.
BTW I saw your comments about topwater near the dam....that might come in handy one day :) Check you PM's
I didnt make it either had to rid myself of the james bug and check it out again,,,,,,,,,,,,,, hell its in my backyard to say....hit me up sometime we will hit it one eve......Frank
Went today.. Only stayed an hour....read on & you'll find out why.
I launched my kayak from the ramp around 5pm....ominous looking sky so I stayed near the ramp. Went directly across the lake and found some branches in the water. Started out promising as I hooked up within my 3rd cast, it was a smaller bass, jumped & got off. Then I found a nice blowdown and snagged on it....had a really hard time fighting the wind, it was blowing 20-30mph in gusts. I ended up breaking off my rod tip while trying to free it.
So that just amplified the anger surrounding fighting the wind. Started with rod #2 and felt a few rain drops so I went closer to the ramp. There was this teenage kid standing on the dock at the ramp dropping f-bombs into his cell phone as loud as he could. Mother F this, mother F that. Soon two other kids about his age showed up and they sat there on the dock while the original kid yelled into his cell phone that he was going to "kill your m f'n a$@#" to whoever was on the phone.
Finally I had enough and just went back to the truck.
I'll try again some other time.
