In my opinion yes and no. Some are but most are not. My brother and I went yesterday and cleaned 7:(. Fished all day had 9 total. We did fish for some bass also. The crappie we caught in 2 - 7 fow. I think by this weekend they will be in full spawn. Again this is just my opinion.
I agree with griggs with similar luck altley casting the banks as well. If the water temp rises, which it should with the warmer air temps moving into the area....it's about to get flat ugly. One should be able to cast the banks points and stake beds and gather a fairly decent quarry especailly around the hesters area with all the rocks. again my opinion as well...keep your figners crossed.
Thanks for the advise guys
Went again today with no luck. My brother and I fished every stake bed we could find in two bays and caught 1 very small white. Got tired of no fish and switched to bass. We managed 14 with two nice keepers. Gonna try a few more days for crappie and then going to bass, gills, and ears for the rest of the summer.
Give the crappie a chance, I think they will hit the banks and spawning areas this weekend or early next week as water temps get back to the mid to high 60s. The front that came through on the 19th ruined it. we caught fish that were spawning or dang close, on the 19th. Then they all went deep or otherwise disappeared.
Folks, my opinion is that the bulk of the spawn is over for me on Jonathan Creek but there will still be some stragglers. Heck, I've caught crappie year round that has had eggs in'em. You have to realize that the water temp has hit 60 degrees three times this spring and then fallen. For the past three weeks I've been catching whites that where bustin with eggs and their bung holes hangin' out. I was catching them shallow for the last of march and first of april then they went deep (probably because of the fronts and lake level fluctuation) and stayed there for a little over a week. The ones I caught deep seemed to be in the spawn. Went today for a few hours and they where nowhere to be found. I fished shallow and deep and only caught 6 keepers and a bunch of dinks. Of the 6, only one had a full egg sack. In about another week, we should start catching them in that post spawn feeding frenzy. It always seems like they go through a one to two week period after the spawn that they recover and then start feeding again. But, this is just my opinion and it may be different where you fish. I hope I'm wrong!
